Going to be driving from Pcola to Tampa next week. Trying to stay off of I10 and as close to the coast as possible. Does anyone have a recommendation on a should not miss eatery? Seafood, BBQ or just about anything would do. tia

If you're taking US19, stop at Barbecue Bills in Chiefland. My favorite BBQ joint. When you're in Tampa go to the West Tampa Sandwich Shop. Best food in the state of FL.

When last visiting my sister in St. Pete, I did the Cigar City Brewery tour then slid over to the nearby West Tampa Sandwich Shop. It was outstanding. I would debate the "best food in the state", but it has my highest recommendation for an authentic Cuban lunch counter.

Eat lots of grilled grouper sandwiches. I would think most seafood restaurants along your route would serve them.

If you're in Tampa and craving a good shrimp po-boy, hit The Tampa Tap Room on Dale Mabry. One of the best po-boy I've ever had, New Orleans included. If you're in the Brandon area (right outside of Tampa) The Stein and Vein is a MUST-DO!! THAT is the best restaurant in all of Tampa. You would never know it because it's in an underwhelming strip mall and just says "PUB" on top the building. VERY EXCELLENT food though.

Explain off of I-10?
As in hwy 20 or hwy 98 through the panhandle? going to take you 2-3 times as long to truly hug the coast. Id stop for a night in Appalachicola if you are truly hugging the coast and eat some oysters.

Taking an RV to the Spring game then to Orlando by Tuesday. We have done I10 dozens of times over the years and did the Jacksonville/Daytona route the last few times. Thought we would meander along the gulf coast this time. So some of 98 and others if there is a spot to take in. Thanks.

Indian pass raw bar and hole in the wall seafood in apalachicola area. Will take several hours more but I've done it, I prefer back roads and small towns than interstate too and will often go the scenic route to avoid interstate.

Since you're "meandering" you could take a break at Wakulla State Park. It's about 15 miles south of Tallahassee. Beautiful park and has a boat tour (30 -60 min). Not too different from the swamps in LA but there are manatees. And unlike so much of FL, it hasn't been overrun with plastic tourism.

Time travel 40 years and eat at Oysters 606 SE US Hwy 19, Crystal River, FL 34429. I like the grouper sandwich. Insane portions and low prices. Yes, the decor is at least 40 years old. :)
For the freshest seafood ever, go to Cedar Key Fish and crab 5590 S Boulevard Dr, Homosassa, FL 34448. Cheap fresh shrimp and stone crab straight from the waters.
