Posted on 4/1/14 at 9:33 pm to fightin tigers
been over for a couple weeks podnah

You gave it a good run.
I usually wait until after the Lenten season and find something I did not partake in. Makes my decision way easier.

Just let me know when.
My buddy's place on St. Charles will finally be opening (again) soon, so I'll be down there before long to check it out.

2+ weeks with no beer and only alcohol on the weekends. thought it was a solid effort.

Double IPA in Merlot barrels.
that rodeo clown i had yesterday on tap was a special edition rodeo clown that was aged in a merlot barrels.
it had a little twang to it but nothing I would pay 14 bucks a pint for again. it was worth the try though.

So Pro IPA.
I just don't get the love for that one. It's good, but there are much better available on the shelves here.

Little place up here just outside if The Woodlands. It's close to the corner of 1488 and 2978. Texas Beer Garden.
They do a great job with the locals. Lone Pint, Karbach, st As...etc. maybe 15 taps or so.
Decent little place thats less than 10 minutes away.

Gimme Timber Beast all day. Best MS beer, IMO

And I am just the opposite. I get the SoPro isn't some hop bomb, but I will drink it all day versus Timber Beast.
Not that that is a knock against timber beast, just that if I had the choice I would go SoPro. Fresh TB is hard to come by right now as well.
Dammit, I see a head to head in the near future.

May have been talked about plenty on this board already, but ran into 3 guys from Lagunitas today. They were just in town scoping out the beer scene in the BR stores. Really nice guys. Seemed pretty pumped about getting there beer in BR in a couple of months. I know I'm pumped.

I know you talked them up. Would be a sweet gain for the BR market.
Has to be a huge sign that they are even making visits.

They said with the second brewery opened in Chicago?, I think, that they we're looking to be in BR real soon.

I agree. I liked it, but it was nothing special. Still, it was a good change of pace from the usual rotation.

Kim, it was very interesting. The DIPA style makes more sense to age in wine barrels than bourbon to me. I think this was the overall better variation of their Rodeo Clown DIPA (opposed to bourbon barrel) as far as style goes. The BB DIPA was pretty bourbon-y, but I won't complain about that. My drinking buddy claims that the merlot barrel DIPA is his favorite Karbach.
Like List Eater has said, I still favor the BB Hellfighter (porter) by a long shot (personal preference). But the merlot was an interesting variation in the FUN series that I will drink again (have access to more).
Stink, I'd assume what you had is the FUN 010. Unless they had another special cask or small batch that was the same style your bar in TW had. I tend to agree with your assessment, but will drink again in 22 oz format.
I always look forward to FUN series by Karbach. They brew some cool shite.
