Other than the mountains, that could be my backyard. It might have deeper water than that lake right now.

Yes. The Elkhorns. That is at the Anthony Lakes ski resort.

How's the skiing up there? We are looking to go somewhere different than Colorado this time.

My understanding is that they have fantastic powder, but it is a small resort.

If you want a great beer/ski destination, think about Bend.

Thanks guys, I'll look in to both. I have a snowboard, so the free checked bags on Southwest is a big plus to flying to Portland.

ETA: and the beer of course

2&3BD: Side by side comparison

Jai Alai canned 06/09 vs. Yellow Rose bottled 6/24

YR is much more pale in color, almost like straw, compared to JA which appears more bronze.

The head on YR stays together much better than JA, and its residue clings to the glass.

The smell of YR is unmatched compared to the vast majority of other beers I've tried, and this is no different. JA has a more fruity smell, while YR is more like a flower. Yellow Rose wins in smell.

YR is more "herbal" in taste, like a stronger OB Pinner (I know many on here don't care for Pinner, but it's the only session IPA I enjoy, so YR being like a stronger one is a plus). It has a bit of a sweetness on the "end taste", though.

JA's taste is more juicy/fruity, maybe like a weaker version of Ghost 4.0??

Overall, it's tough to say which I like better. The smell of Yellow Rose is awesome, and I enjoy the taste very much as well. However, I do think I like Jai Alai a tad bit more. I find the back-end taste to remain more than YR.

Both are awesome-arse beers.

Hopefully my trip to NM soon will yield some LaCumbre Elevated IPA to take back home. I'm going to save my last Jai Alai, and probably pick up another bottle of Yellow Rose this week to keep. My desire is to conduct a 3-way comparison.

Beautiful Jax, just awesome.

Just got home from work and contemplating FBD. I am looking forward to the long 7/4 weekend.

4&5BD: Another comparison, two of my favorite DIPAs. Double Jack bottled 05/08 vs. Space Cake bottled 05/04.

Double Jack is much clearer in appearance, as Space Cake seems very cloudy. SC's head stays together and clings to the glass more the DJ.

While DJ has always been in my Top 3 of best tasting DIPAs, I've said before I may even like fresh DJ over fresh Ghost (not sure about that after Ghost 5.0, though), the nose on DJ seems to be almost non-existent at time. SC wins out on smell. You can smell the booze on DJ much more than SC, though the ABV is only 9.5% vs. 9%.

The taste of Double Jack lingers on your tongue much more than Space Cake, though I'm not sure if it's because DJ is just boozier on the back-end. Both leave a bitterness at the end. Hell, part of me wants to lean towards Space Cake, which just completely screws up what I was expecting. I don't know what sort of conclusion to reach.

Now I need to do a 4-way comparison with fresh versions of Double Jack, Space Cake, Ghost and Burton Baton.
