Picked up a couple of Adam from the Wood while at lunch. Had an enjoyable experience, today. Maybe it's the lunch vibe vs. the dinner vibe. I have not liked hair of the dog in the last couple times I've been in the evening.

Wow, big surprise, b complaining about a nola beer. That never happens.

If you weren't buddies with one of the brewers, you'd say the same thing.

I just don't care for that distinct malt sweetness that Hopitoulas and Rebirth share that overshadows the hops.

That said, Rebirth isn't a bad beer, and I'll continue to drink it, especially since it supports a great cause. It's just not my favorite pale ale. Looking forward to the tin foil dry hopped canned version.

I find the envie to be better but I didn't find that it was that big of a difference between the two. I would drink Envie more if it was sold here. Only their higher end beers are distributed here (bottle wise that is).

I still haven't tasted a metallic beer from nola yet. Must be a Baton Rouge/Lafayette thing.

Word from parish Saturday is they tinkered with Envie and are not happy with the most recent batch. Has a "melon" flavor. I'll be there later this week and will get the scoop.

I will have to investigate this travesty for myself. I will have to wait until the weekend though.

I had two cans of ICS and one of them had a slight metallic flavor and the other one was fine. This as someone who has no dog in this fight. It wasn't bad, but it was noticeable.

I've tasted it at times. Others have too. Gordon Strong, author of the 2004 BJCP style guidelines and president of the BCJP board has.

From the April Zymurgy magazine:

quote:

Odd, lightly metallic or iron-like flavor. Is this from the can?

I really need to get one of these cans. When I brought it up with the NOLA peeps it was news to them. Any brew they produce for package has to be sent off for testing before it can be approved for sale. Only thing it could be is old beer or the way it's handled once it leaves the brewery. They do need to do a better job of dating the cans IMO.

And I haven't noticed it in all of the cans. But it seems to be a crapshoot when it will surface. I've noticed it more in ICS than any other beer, but I've noticed it in Hopitoulas and Mechahopzilla as well. Oddly enough, I haven't experienced it in Brown, which I still think is their most underrated beer.

And I'm certainly not smart enough to even begin to hypothesize what's causing it.

Is that any good? I picked up a bottle the other day and the cashier at Steins said that no one had bought any and that it had just been sitting there. I rolled the dice as it was only like $6 or $7.

$6.49 is what I paid. I think it's worth a shot. It has a slight alcohol burn, but it is 10%. It has some kind of flavor in it that I can't pin down. Seems a few other reviewers on beer advocate have the same taste.
