I'm not one for taking medication or getting sick, but every once in a while I get a lil something that doesn't shake away in the first few days. With all the traveling I did during the holidays (Bay Area - Oregon - SoCal - BR - back to SoCal) I have come down with a classic cold.
Ain't nothing worse than a runny nose.
My usual go-to is Bragg's apple cider vinegar ... put 2 tsp in a glass of water, with a little local honey... mmm! Can't beat it. I like to drink it regularly to prevent sickness, but it also has great benefits all around for your whole body. Makes a pretty good salad dressing too if you cut it with oil.
I have no fear of chewing on raw garlic and sucking it down, but this morning I wanted a nice little cocktail. I chopped/boiled 4 cloves of garlic, scooped out the garlic and disposed of it, and added a tbsp of honey. I must say - it's pretty good! Then again, you add enough honey to anything and it'll taste right.
Side of that, I'm having a glass of warm (almond) milk, with a 1/2 tsp of turmeric. Also known as Golden Milk
Besides health related things - I find great pleasure popping a few spent oranges and some cinnamon in a pot of boiling water and making the house smell like Fall. It's the simple things in life.
Anyone have any go to remedies that are sitting around the kitchen?

I use them all too.
local honey
acv
garlic
turmeric
I make a little cocktail by warming ACV, lemon juice, honey, garlic, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and cayenne pepper together. I don't bring it to a boil, just warm enough to mix all the ingredients. Once it cools, I put it in a jar and then refrigerate. I take a tablespoon or two as needed. It helps with cough and congestion

A strong saltwater gargle, 3-4 times a day, is great for throat inflammation.

I hope you enjoy the taste because as far as curatives, these are all bull crap quackery.

when i was a kid and had an earache my mom used to take a sock, fill it halfway with salt, tie it off, microwave it, then make me hold the hot salt filled sock to my ear. if that didnt work it was warm olive oil in the ear.
pretty sure it was more gris gris than actual medical procedure.

quote:i put 1/2 tsp in my milk or water, whatever I'm taking it with. That's the recommended dosage I've seen a few places online... if in a couple hrs you still are aching, it wouldn't hurt to do more.

There's a nifty thing called the placebo effect. Your mind is a powerful thing.

quote:oooook. So you're saying garlic and turmeric and lemon don't have properties to boost your health when you're sick? Got it! You dunno what you're talking about.

Why am I not surprised you had no useful info to share. What do you put in your lunch box?

I can attest to a product called L-Mannose; that a Duke Univ Hosp surgeon now tells her patients about after female surgery and UTIs that won't go away.

If this were so true than probiotics that people like you made fun of; wouldn't be in every store, yogurt and Walgreens now. They save people from C-Diff.
