Just had one of those moments tonight that makes me think I want to be one of those fruity healthy people sometimes. Not a vegetarian or anything, just a little healthier.

I decided to pay Sams Club a visit last weekend just to check out all of the food items and I picked up a few things while there, one of which was a frozen "premium" chopped brisket pre-cooked thing. Tonight we went to heat it up and I noticed how much fat/grease/gristle was in this thing. My wife noticed much more in the form of three long hairs in the bowl. Fckin disgusting. We threw it all away and cooked something else.

I think I am ready to throw in the towel and start buying my meat and milk from whole foods. The scene at Sams the other day was pitiful. I know I was in Metairie, so maybe thats not up to par with alot of places, but everyone in there looked fat/ugly/ or pissed off. It was just pathetic.
This is all coupled with a few things I read recently about how disgusting the modern meat packaging plants are.
I need to start buying stuff and cooking it all myself and quit buying the pre-packaged items.

yes.

pepperoni pizza disgusts me. used to work in a pizzeria, and taking them out of the oven with pools of grease, so much that when you slice it hot grease splashes on your hand and burns you. And the smell....i can barely stomach the shite anymore.

Shop for meat at your neighborhood grocery store- they actually have butchers there that take the time to make sure the cuts are okay.

That is what I generally do. 90% of my shopping is done at either Rouses(small chain out of Houma) or Dorignacs(family owned store for like 40 years).

I avoid all pre-packaged dinners. I buy meat from a local grocery store that has a butcher on duty.

Rouse's is out of Thibodaux; they have a nice little empire growing, can compete with the big boys without AG's help

Liver & Chitterlings , Just thinking of the crap that passes thru them make me gag.

Sams is worse on the weekends, it is like all the "bubbas" bring the family out for a free buffett.

This will definitely help. It really makes me ill to think about all the crap that's in prepared food items, canned or frozen. NEVER read the ingredients or you'll really gross out.

I do admit to using some packaged things from time-to-time, but I try to prepare stuff from scratch if possible.
