Doe's Eat Place

FINALLY got a chance to try Doe's tonight. Loved the fact I could relax in shorts and Tshirt, and still have an awesome meal.
The crab and corn bisque/soup was good. I expected the corn to be sweet, and kind of caught me off guard the first bite bc of the salty/spicy flavor. It was full of large lumps of crab, and was quite tasty.
Forgot to order the tamales after the server told us about them, looked awesome at every other table, so will def order them next time I go.
The Broiled shrimp was very good as well. Lemon and lime flavor, very nice texture, very flavorful.
The drop biscuits/rolls were awesome. (make sure to add the honey, it's on the table)
Steaks came out the best. Cooked to perfection, melting in your mouth, all around in the top 2 or 3 steaks I've ever eaten, BRAVO.
Fries were the side, and at first glance I almost passed on them. They looked overcooked and dried out, but after taking one bite, I quickly realize how looks can be deceiving. They were a very nice compliment to the steak.
All in All, I give it thumbs up. Great place for dinner, and I highly recommend it.

They must have really improved.. When they first opened the reviews were not great then I went and I didn't enjoy it. The steak I had (porterhouse to share) was a very bad cut. Although cooked right. But in the past month or two the reviews have all seemed to be positive. I might have to retry.

You should give it another try. Make it a monday night and I'll meet you over there for a nice cold Abita Amber.

We went last Monday and were disappointed. The steaks were only average.
Don't think I would go back.

I guess I am going to have to give it a try, also. I had the best steak ever at their original location in Greenville, MS. You talk about a big damn steak for about 50 bucks...and damn well worth it!

I've been twice and had a good meal both times. Certainly not the BEST place in town, but I haven't been disappointed at all.

What's the price situation like?
Posted on 10/14/08 at 8:36 am to Rickety Cricket
Pricing is moderate.. Not your entry level steak house prices and not your Flemmings/Ruths prices either. There needs to be a note about the atmosphere though.. EXTREMELY casual for a steakhouse. More so than even an Outback. They are trying to mimick their location in MS a small town steakhouse.

I have been once and it was satisfying but man, I could make a meal of fries, hot tamales, soup and biscuits!!!!!

Cant recall the fries there.. But I think most people will agree that the salad is God Aweful.. Hopefully they decide to redo that.

Yeah, something like that.
The fries were pretty damn good... for french fries.

a terrible does tradition all the way back to Greenville and yes, they should redo that definately!!

I really like the place, and even sort of appreciated the salad for what it was - lagniappe.

$50 for a steak?
holy hell

I think the 50 dollar steak is really meant for 2. Its a 2 pound porterhouse. I mean I guess one really hungry person could eat it. Personally I found that the bone took up most of the weight though and it really only feeds 1.5 persons.

My wife and I took some home. Of course, the dozen tamales sort of filled us up, to begin with.

I understand now

I think I am the only one who liked the salad. I thought the dressing was great and that is exactly why they do not put any real ingredients in the salad to highlight the dressing. I am pretty easy to please though.
