Heading to Lake Charles soon to visit my son. Celebrating a nice promotion and looking for a nice place to have dinner. It dawned on me that I've never stayed overnight in LC or ever had dinner there. Hoping someone could recommend a nice place or two in LC or the immediate area. T.I.A.

Thanks for this. Assuming you meant "Mazen's". Very well rated. Menu is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Had no idea they also had a place in Lafayette. Not sure about 121 Bistro. Urbanspoon has not been kind to them and Mazen's entrees are a little more substantial.

Although casino's usually offer good value, I've pretty much sworn them off because they're never really smoke free.

Mazens is great. Their rack of lamb is superb.

Take a look at La Truffle Savage as well.

As far as steaks, Vic & Anthonys in the Nugget us the best. Would stay away from the rest of the food in either.

Second on La Trufe. Fantastic wine list, as well.

Let them know you are celebrating. Good people.

Looks very nice but had a bit of sticker shock. Mazen's doesn't publish prices online. Any better? I'd like to at least keep my appetizers under $10. La Truffle Savage Dinner Menu

I did mean Mazen's, autocorrect got me The grand marnier souffle is amazing, and I'm not a big dessert person. Their fish dishes are superb and the duck is also one of my go to's. Last time I went they had a New York Strip with a chipotle bleu cheese butter sauce that was incredible.

I haven't had a bad meal at 121, but it's probably been 6 months since I've gone so maybe they've been having some issues.

Others have mentioned La Truffe, which I haven't tried but have heard great things about.

Don't go to La Truffle or Vic & A's. You can find some apps at Mazens for less that. $10. Maybe the hummus. I apologize about the rec's, you asked for a nice place after a promotion.....

121 has less expensive options and is a good spot. Maybe Zeus if you want Greek. There is also a Coyote Blues n Lake Charles. Luna is a grill downtown w prices more in line with what you are looking, and a lot of people like it... I do not.

121 is always great. Not sure why they get the bad wrap on US

Mazen's
La Truffe Savage
Restaurant Calla
Cousin's

All good choices.

Luna's if you want a more upscale casual

I've been hearing good things on Calla (relatively new gastro pub) and Grotto Ristorante (Italian restaurant inside Golden Nugget casino). But you definitely won't be disappointed with food at Mazen's.

Agree with Mazens at the price point you are lookimg at. I would second Calla. It may be slightly above what you are looking for (I haven't looked at the menu recently) but the food is delicious both at lunch and dinner.

For dinner I would get the smoked fried chicken, for lunch the burger (It's probably in the top 2-3 I've ever had and I love burgers). The burger might be available off menu at dinner as well, not sure.

Smoked fried chicken If I wasn't smoking a brisket I'd go order that tonight. Definitely gonna try Calla soon

You should. It's definitely unique in LC and a really solid restaurant that would be competitive in a lot of markets. I actually talked my wife into going tonight. I'm ready for some fried chicken. They have a decent draft beer selection and some good cocktails too.
