I know this has been posted 1000 times but I am from here and was looking for something other than my normal date places (digulios, ginos, jubans, ruffinos). This girl works at a fine dining place so I don't think she will want to go to a place like that. Any recommendations on something that is maybe different than the usual same places?

Not much in BR, but Maison Lacour, Brandts Maisonette, are safe, and I've heard that Houmas House is actually doing the real thing over there, and from what I've seen of the menu, I'd have to agree. Still haven't tried it though.

Roberto's River Road Restaurant. You'll be giving her the most disappointing 30 seconds of her life shortly after getting home.

Understanding the kind of person who works in a fine dining establishment is more fundamental.

I was thinking about the roberto's place i heard it would be an experience. Every girl has gone or been brought to tsunami so that's no good. While le reyena may be good im not sure she will like that.

Let me word this so as a small child can understand.

If you name a fine dining place, he's not going to take her there.

Yeah, Tsunamis does what they do nice, and I'd say it's way above par for BR, but another place you might think about that's not necessarily wow crazy panties coming off food, but still way above the BR bar which is set is Stroubes Chophouse on 3rd street.

Last time I ate there was lunch a few months ago, and I was impressed with his homemade focaccia. Had his shrimp and grits and it's was pretty close to the NOLA style, almost a BBQ shrimp style sauce if I remember correctly. Regardless, they are cooking real food. I think she would appreciate that.

French Market Bistro is really nice inside, but business causal, great date place.

Except the last time I ate there they couldn't temp a mid rare steak, not one, but three of them. They did comp the wine for us to make it up, but you know, it never really does make up for the incompetence or bad taste in your mouth. I expected much more from them.

Very romantic, but certainly not in a typical setting for fine dining. Very casual, romantic and service and food have always been good.

Ouch. At least mine lets me count the drive home as foreplay.

Agreed. He mentioned in the OP that he didn't want a fine dining restaurant, hence my recommendation.

That's my kind of counting.

Go casual.

Roberto's = too much driving IMO. Stuck in the car for too long w/ a chick on a first date can lead to some awkward silences. "so uhhh"
French Market Bistro = Very good and one of my BR favorites, but depending on your age and her age I'd go more casual.
Tsunami = Nice date place, but sushi is always questionable on first dates and like you said, "it's been done".
Brandt's & Maison Lacour = Best food in BR, but not cheap and more than I would spend on a first date.
Bistro Byronz = Not too expensive. Nice date place. Large varitety on menu.
Chelseas = Very casual, fairly priced menu, good non-meat options. Can walk to another bar after.
Louisiana Pizza Kitchen = Low key atmosphere. Good pizza. Fresh food. Inexpensive and casual.
Marcello enoteca = Good food. Not overly expensive. Good atmosphere, but a bit loud. Can walk to the Bulldog for a beer after.
Thai Kitchen = One of the most overlooked places in BR. Great Thai and sushi if you think she's feeling frisky. And you can walk to the Bulldog.

Out of Afro's list, I'd narrow it down to Thai Kitchen and Chelsea's

Chelsea's is a great place for a first date. I've had many there.
