I don't know about you, but in my kitchen, the counters and sink are too low. I'm not a giant. I'm about 6'1 and it kills my back to work at the sink or on a counter if I do it for more than 5-10 minutes. So, if I was re-doing my kitchen, the counters and sink would be raised a bit.

I was just telling my husband that my dream kitchen would have one section of countertop maybe 2 feet wide that was about 6" lower to make it easier for short people like me to do stuff. Preferably with a surface where I could roll out dough too. He's 6'2" but I'm only 5'2", so it's sometimes difficult for me to stir big bowls of stuff without a stepstool.

You said before you had a marble fetish, but I had not seen picks. After seeing those, I would have to agree...

Maybe the solution is to have a mechanism to raise and lower these spaces by a few inches. It really wouldn't add that much expense to a major renovation.

imma couple inches taller, rat, and mine does too. I've started to spread stuff out on bar/countertop and sit my old butt down and work, paul prudhomme style.

Just finished my kitchen and living room. If you are going with recessed lighting in the kitchen I highly recommend LED lights. My neighbor warned me she used regular recessed lights and they add more heat to the kitchen. They are not cheap but are supposed to last a lot longer and are more efficient. I went with a double granite composite sink that I LOVE! It is very deep and so easy to keep clean. I have gas appliances so I went with a glass/metal mosiac backsplash - easy to clean and gave me lots of options to bring in different colors.

Just my 2 cents (actually wish the remodel was 2 cents) - will be paying for it for awhile
