Please recommend a BBQ joint in Dallas, we will be staying near North Pearl and Cedar Springs (which I believe is Uptown ?). Considering Pecan Lodge and Cattleack but I'm sure there are hidden gems I have not come across yet. TIA

The only other place you even need to consider is Lockhart Smokehouse and you've got the three best options in Dallas. Enjoy

Pecan lodge is king. Cattleack won't be open unless you're here Thursday or Friday.

Yes you are staying Uptown. Pecan Lodge isn't far away. Prob a 5-10 min uber at most. Get there early and get in line.

Lockheart in Bishop Arts. Everyone will say Pecan Lodge, but IMO it's not worth the wait. I've had PL twice, and while it was very good, I waited about two hours both times. At Lockheart, however, I was in and out for lunch with little to no wait.

Have eaten at Pecan Lodge and Hutchins (?) in McKinney. Hutchins is very good but PL is the best all around BBQ joint I've been to.

I ate at Hutchins on a business lunch a few weeks ago and the brisket was good. I think we were in Frisco. Hell all those cities run together to me. It was 5 minutes from the Embassy Suites where that minor league baseball team is located. Anyway wherever I was it was good and the line wasn't all that bad.

On a side note a customer wanted to eat at Heim BBQ in Fort Worth and that brisket and burnt ends was excellent.

Another customer took me to Hard Eight in Coppell and it was good. After my week of travels there I sure don't want any brisket right now but damn it all was very good.

I love that beef and pork smoked sausage that has cheese and jalapeño in it. Seems like all those good Texas BBQ joints have their version of it.

That Killen's in Pearland, TX just south of Houston has the best beef rib I've ever eaten. If Pecan Lodge can beat that I would be shocked. Last time I went to PL they just ran out of their beef ribs.

In that area

Pecan Lodge
Lockhart
Cattleack (haven't had it yet but heard good things)

Outside of that area

Meat U Anywhwhere (grapevine). This place is a hidden jewel

Intrinsic smokehouse and brewery (garland)

Down the list but respectable...

Ten 50 BBQ (Richardson)

Hard Eight (coppell or the colony)

Damn. I live in Gapevine and have heard quite a few people say they love this place. But every time I've gone i haven't liked it. Maybe it's because i go later in the evening when everything has sat for a while. Also, their breakfast tacos are definitely a no go.

Mike Anderson's is never talked about. Love that place and think i now know more people who like it over pecan lodge. Unless you're only getting a beef rib. But hell, I can make killer beef ribs.

Pecan Lodge

If you've got some money to kill and at least one other guy, cut through the side door and order a trough

You get a ton of food, including the beef rib

It'll run you about 80$ with drinks but if you've got a couple of guys, you can skip the line and try everything for relatively cheap per person

The beef ribs are $20 on their own so definitely worth it

Pecan Lodge is the way to go for consistency. If you want to travel out to Fort Worth...I suggest one of Tim Love's places. Woodshack is hot as bawls but the food can be solid. The lamb brisket is really really good.

Mike Andersons is alright. I live less than a minute away from the one in the Medical District. Not going to lie though, I'm not a big BBQ guru. It all seems the same to me. Pecan Lodge definitely stood out compared to all the others. That's how I know it was good.

It's possibly the best in Texas, among the best in the country, and it's not worth the wait.

Hence my opinion. You have yours. I have mine. It's very good, but that are few things in life worth waiting that long for.
