the whole job thing throws a wrench in the spokes for some.

Right

I'd love to stay at home all day every day and cook elaborate meals

But I work 12 hours a day

the red beans thread inspired me to load up the crockpot before leaving yesterday, never did it before. Coming home to only needing a pot of rice cooked was great, not to mention the smell in the house. Will not be the last.

Lazy sauerkraut and pork

Dice up 4 apples and toss in cinnamon. Place in crockpot
Rinse two jars of vlasic sauerkraut and place on top of apples
Dice an onion and add on top kraut
Chop up a few slices of bacon and throw on top
Season pork chops or boneless pork ribs and place atop kraut

I have a very large crockpot so mine can hold quite a bit. Cook on low for 6-8 hours and you'll have something magical.

dude, that looks good, but I will do it with home orchard apples, homemade kraut, onions from the garden, free range pigs from off the farm and home cured bacon, and my blend of special seasonings.

I kid, I kid, adding to grocery list now!

Crock pots aren't good for all cooking, but for things that should simmer a good while, they work well. You can leave the house and let it go, especially with gas. I hate leaving gas on all night or when I have to leave the house during the day. That's one reason, I make large stocks in the big roaster, overnight. It's done by morning and I can strain and then reduce or whatever else I need to do.

For some folks with small kitchens, ovens and cooking something for a long time on the stove makes the kitchen hot. It's nice to be able to do that overnight or during the day when they're away. Crockpots also don't make the kitchens quite as warm.

And, finally, you can hold your favorite rotel dip in a crock pot forever during football season.

Mmm, Rotel & Velveeta!

A few years ago I bought a mini crock pot specifically for dips. Very handy to take along to potlucks and office parties and such.

Is that a hot dip?

I have a cold pepperoni and muenster cheese spread recipe. I haven't made it in a long time. It's good, though. I need to find that.

It's a hot dip. I googled, but haven't figured out which one I've used before. I'm bad like that.

plus one on owner of the small crockpot for dips. I also make overnight oatmeal in it like someone linked earlier. Especially good for steel cut oats. I make lots of things in my crockpot while at work since I work 10-6 and hubs likes to eat before 8pm and doesn't want salad every day.

Fun fact- I actually found TD by googling crock pot recipes many years ago. true story!

I make steel cut oats overnight and they are a great smell to wake up too.

I like chili grind beef or shredded beef in my rotel cheese dip.

Try oxtails, onions and mushrooms.

I try so hard not to eat rotel dip because I overindulge and hate myself later on, but the beefy version is good. So is the hot sausage version and the Italian sausage version and....

madamsquirrel, your summer wear is quite fetching.

I've perused this site for crockpot recipes: www.crockpot365.blogspot.com

I was underwhelmed with responses, so I reverted to a mushroom and black pepper pork roast. Taters, carrots, and onions; turned it on when I left for work this morning.
