A source tells me that Crazy Johnnie's will be reopening in Metairie not too far from where the were originally. The space where the Peppermill was! In fact plans are for there to be more than one location.

It used to be home of the $2.99 steak!

I wonder what the number will be now?

Most of the allure of this place was because it was inexpensive, the steaks were ok, but the potatoes were delicious.

It will be fun to watch.

I'm sure it won't be $2.99. That space is a high cost lease and was one of the reasons the Peppermill closed.

It appears that they have recently been doing dry runs in the form of pop ups at various sites. Look 'em up on Facebook -- no affiliation other than I must have eaten the equivalent of several whole cows there back in the day.

The latest pop up:

I only ate there a handful of times but did enjoy it for what it was.

One place I'd love to see reopen is Carmine's. The first site I ate at was out by the lake in Bucktown but that one closed down. They reopened on Vets and the wife and I would eat there 3-4 times a year.

They had a great appetizer in the seafood stuffed artichoke that was a big steamed artichoke filled with shrimp, oysters, fish and covered in a creamy dill sauce that was to die for.

First time I ever ate at Carmine's I ordered the stuffed artichoke appetizer and an entree. By the time my date and I were finished with the artichoke there was no room left for the entree.

I don't remember there being a cheap steak, but it was a very cheap and very good filet mignon sandwhich. Yes the potatoes were good as was the BBQ shrimp dipping sauce with bread.

My wife and I would go there some when we first got married and always enjoyed it. One night a week they had half priced bottles of wine, so it made for an affordable date night spot.

They better still put a crabapple on the plate!
