Yellowfin,
how do I get a "select" sack of crawfish in Destin?
Moved to Atlanta 8 months ago and I am craving some crawfish. Want to boil a sack while im in Destin next weekend

one of you fine fellas help me out. usually get them from capt sids or dennis's. wife called today and dennis's said they would only have boiled for sunday, and capt sids and schaeffers both said they wouldn't know what they would have until fri.

Yep. That was last weekend. Farmer price jumped up .50 to $2.00 this week.

If I had to guess, you can expect to pay $.75+ over wholesale for retail.

That is about the norm($2.00 today from several different suppliers). You'll see places like Tony's that might be cheaper, but they might be getting a better wholesale price or just exploiting their volume.

They are probably the largest crawfish retailer in the state so I'm sure they are getting better prices than most.

Restaurant Depot (where I worked as seafood manager for close to a year) just gives their crawfish away to get people in the door. I've seen them work on $.05-$.10/lb before. They do buy in volume so they also get pretty good prices.

When I was there, they were buying from a few different distributors. Pond and wild. Whatever the distributors could get. They would buy 50-200 sacks a day depending on demand. Early on in the season they were always short just like everyone else.

Not sure who they are using now. They can be difficult for vendors to deal with from my experiences there. They can be demanding.
