Me and my fiancé are not the best cooks around, but we love to cook and know our way around the kitchen. Her son, 13yr old, wants to be a chef. I thought it might be a good/fun idea for us to take a cooking class. Does anyone know of any or have any advise? We live on the northshore, but the New Orleans area would be fine too. Thanks in advance!

Can't help in NOLA, but anyone done the Ruffino's one? We had some of the classes bought for us and haven't taken the class, any one know what they are like?

I've been to a bunch at Ruffinos. More of a demonstration but fun as hell. He cooks several items, depending on the class and everyone gets a plate and a wine to pair up with it and he gives you a small file with all the evenings recipes on it. It's a fun gig for a Monday. Haven't been in a while. We did a BBQ one and they had some good craft beers, a sous vide one, Italian one and an American I believe. Did a French technique class that was good. Peter gets his dad to help and he's funny as hell. Old school New Orleans restaurateur with some good stories.

In NOLA I'm sure Delgado has some leisure classes and what's that gals name down there? I'll think of it.

Well if you want BR Louisiana Culinary Institute has leisure classes.

And there is always the Viking class at the downtown Hilton.

I've never taken a cooking class. However, I've heard New Orleans School of Cooking is entertaining and fun. Foods are basics like gumbo, jambalaya and the like I think.

Read Jay Ducote's biteandbooze.com blog. He hosts cooking classes in BR. I know one is at a pasta place...
