Here are all of the ingredients

Cooking on the stove

I have to chop up the carrots

Add the peas

chop up the chicken

add the chicken to the pan

mix

now its time to eat. the bowl view

package it up and put it in the freezer

This is about a month's worth of food. I have been doing this every month since my dog had a bought with pancreatitis. Vet told me to put him on a bland diet. I dont add any seasoning. I alternate between oats and brown rice every month. He tears this shite up. He absolutely loves it.

Way to make me feel like an arse hole with what I feed my dog.

But seriously, your dog eats better than most people.

I've been considering going to "real" food for my dog. The dog food I was buying was ~$40/bag. Just found another grain-free that I switched to for $20/bag, but I'd really prefer homemade food. I assume he gets all the nutrients he needs doing this?

Yes, this is the diet the vet told me to put him on. This batch of food costs me about $45. Its actually less than the food I used to buy for him.

Did you get the thighs because of the fat or were they just cheaper?

What you're doing is awesome if it's working good...Hill's prescription ID lowfat has really been a savior for my dog after he had pancreatitis. And as an added bonus, he's not had any diarrhea in the year that's he's been on the ID food.

How much do you feed your dog a day? I was thinking of switching my dog to something like this but she is nearly 100lbs and eats a lot more than a tiny dog so I could see it being quite costly.

I have no idea. I just picked up some chicken. I think I may need to switch to chicken breasts.

My pup eats 5 cups of purina pro plan large puppy a day. And it is only going to go up as she gets bigger.

How much do you feed your 100 lb er?

How much chicken is that? I don't see how those ingredients pictured add up to $45.

3 bags of peas - $6 ($1.99 each)
3 bags of carrots - $7.50 ($2.50 each)
2 boxes of brown rice - $6 ($2.99 each)

Agreed. I was wondering if this was some version of diet jambalaya.

Depending on ypur grpcery store, they may be able to order youcases of chicken backs for abput .29 a pound.

We fed real food for a while: did yams and leg quarters with brown rice. We stopped because one of the dogs will top out close to 200lbs. That's an expensive feed.

We treat our dogs with bread and cheerios.
