That chicken fried steak looks GOOD, but I'd prefer a plate, too.

I don't care for the idea of eating the chicken fried steak on a piece of paper. They can't use a paper plate, at least? I would think the moisture would cause the paper to get wet and tear when you cut it. It looks like that from the pictures. A sandwich is fine on the paper, but a plate meal, I'd want on a plate or some sort.

Puzzling to me, too, because they're big and bulky and I hate cleaning baking sheets. In this place, if they're going to use ceramic for sides, why not use a darn plate, too, even if paper or those cardboard cradles? Also, why not just plop the slaw and the potato salad on the paper like the chicken fried steak? I don't get the logic.

It's a serving vessel so who cares. When I go to a restaurant I care more about the food then the piece of kitchenware it's served on.

I thought the food was good, and that is what will bring me back.

I'm not eating something with a sauce or gravy on paper. No problem with the sandwiches and fries on paper. I care about the vessel for certain dishes.

Just pull the paper out if it bothers you, I guess. It's not like the food is stuck to it.

And cut the chicken fried steak on metal?

The dish should be on some kind of plate.

It does look good though

It's just my opinion and we all know I don't consider my taste/preferences high end. So it might fit with the area.

I may feel different if I was at the Jefferson location.

Hmm. I didn't really mean it like that. I'm just talking about taking a knife to a metal tray to cut up the food.

Nails on a chalkboard.

I don't give a shite if a plate is fancy or not, but the metal trays are for trendiness and nothing more; let's not kid ourselves here. Cutting up a soppy wet meat dish on paper and metal isn't necessarily a preference of mine.
It wouldn't deter me from the place. But when Gris brought it up, I definitely agree.

Things I've tried so far from CP & Pie

Brisket Plate---meh
Chicken & Dumplings---tasty, but too soupy
Cornish Hen---meh
Chicken Fried Steak---Dempsey's is much better
Chef Salad---meh
Green Beans---good
Smoked Corn Grits---yummy
Cajun Rice---way too pungent & mushy
Candied Carrots---i like em
Pies---nothing special. Piccadilly's are better IMO.

Leaving the Cubano sandwich off the menu is disappointing.

Nor I. I just wouldn't order something wet which needs a lot of cutting. There are plenty of options as to avoid that.

I like the way it looks on the tray but I could see some old fashioned people thinking it's weird. W/e, at least there's a place in Baton Rouge trying something different

Why, I like how they are distinguishing each of their restaurants from each other. It makes them seem less of a chain.

Also you cant sit there and compare every item on the menu to somewhere else.

A decade from now every restaurant in BR will be an iteration of City Pork.

Why

The main reason is that I like a good Cuban sandwich, or at least the Hollydale CP version of it.

And Jones, Piccadilly makes some good pies. Where do you recommend getting pies at in BR?

I have no idea. I don't eat sweets. I was just putting that emote at the idea of piccadilly making bethere food than CP, which gets a lot of praise on here.

I can get down with a dilly plate and some red jello

I'd never be a good food critic. I like baseball too much.
