Have a reservation at Charlies tonight. Somehow this is the first time I've ever been. Probably riding the street car, do I need a sport coat in this sweltering heat?

Unless it's changed since I was there a sport coat is totally unnecessary. I wore khakis and a polo and felt overdressed when I was there.

You don't "need" a sport coat anyplace except Galatoire's. Charlie's is super casual.

The new Caribbean Room requires one as well. Only two places in the entire city I can think of.

And lol at needing one at Charlie's. It is pretty casual as glass said.

Oh yes. I haven't been. There are many places I wouldn't go without one.

You'll be kicked out for overdressing (I kid of course).

Is Charlie's still good? I haven't been since the new owners took over, and I have heard negative things. I used to love it years back

Went to Charlie's about 4 weeks ago, and I would not recommend it. OP, Coat is definitely not needed.

The onion rings are thin sliced and good. The salad is iceberg package mix not recommended . The steaks we ordered were not very good.

LOTS of very old people in there and not all for the birthday party. Got to say happy birthday to an 83 year old as his birthday party was being held there.
