Going to be in Birmingham all week. What is the best BBQ?

You'll get a wide range of answers, but here's a list of some that will get mentioned.

Saw's - 3 locations. The Juke Joint location is my favorite. Pork N Greens plate is great.
Rodney Scott's - whole hog, so it's a bit different. Opinions vary. I like it, but know several people that don't.
Martin's - Brisket is good, but a bit inconsistent IMO.
Miss Myra's - great smoked chicken with white sauce if that's your thing.

There are several Jim N Nick's locations, and a few Moe's. Both are decent, but not really unique to Birmingham.

Saws. Get the sampler platter. Ribs, Pork Butt, Chicken w/ white sauce. They have great sides too, except for the beans. Their beans suck.

Ms. Myra's. Go for lunch. Get a half chicken, baked beans, and deviled eggs. Plenty of white sauce. Your choice of pie.

Martin's BBQ. Go for dinner. I like their wings or brisket. Excellent beer selection.

Saw's. Go to the Crestwood location for dinner. Torn between the Soul Bowl, Wings, or fried chicken sandwich. Beer selection is good. They have a Bushwhacker machine for the ladies.

Lots of folks like Rodney Scott's. I've been twice and it was good not great.

Old school Bham BBQ is Golden Rule or Carlisle's. Oddly, the cheeseburgers at both places are probably the best thing on their menus.

Birmingham is a great food town. The BBQ is pretty strong here.

Even though it's Bessemer, I'd throw Bob Syke's into this. It's not worth the drive out there, but if you're in the area, it's solid.

Speaking as a Baton Rougean who wandered up here years ago and stuck around ever since, don't limit yourself to just BBQ.

SAW's Alabama White Sauce is... illuminating... if you've never tried it before. But so is our heritage of OG Greek restaurateurs who have little to do with BR's "Greek and Lebanese" food. Think more "meat and three", something that went away in BR with the demise of The Bread Basket (showing my age), or some very high-end places.

Spleen, Aubie and the rest of the BHM TD crew can offer more directions if you have the time and/or budget. If you like beer, food-trucks and music, my own plea is to ask you to try our many varied breweries along Jones Valley (fancy phrase for the downtown-to-Avondale strip).

Enjoy your time here, and if you are driving around check out my friends at 107.3 FM. Think KLSU/The Zephyr, but all grown up for a modern era.

The location on 31 in Hoover changed names recently. Something about the owners not wanting to do Golden Rule anymore but the food is still great if you’re in the area.

Moe’s is worth it for the spicy baked beans and jalapeño cornbread alone. Plus the meat is pretty good.

I’d argue that they had the best cheeseburger in Bham. I haven’t been since the name change, but if it’s the same old black guys cooking on the same old griddle top, it’s gotta be the same.

Jumbo burger all the way, extra crispy fries, and a sweet tea. You’re welcome.

We have a strong Palestinian community here along with Greeks. They all seem to be in the food business. The best Mediterranean place in Bham is in Cahaba Heights by Ms Myra’s, the Olive Branch. Whatever you do, get the falafels and mint sweet tea. It’ll change your life.

Kibbee is incredible too.

Also, OP: Martin’s has the best baked beans in town. I could eat those as a meal. I also like the pork sandwich with slaw and the habanero bbq sauce. Best pork sandwich I’ve ever had.

But I’m personally partial to Saw’s. Just an incredible product every time I go.

We always enjoyed the old Golden Rule in Irondale when we would go to Talladega. We hit the full moon a couple times and it was very good .
