New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood in Metry was solid from what I remember.

Joey K's on Magazine used to be decent for this, but they seem to have gone downhill since Covid.

If he's coming from North MS he will be on I55.

Tell him to get off at Manchac and you will meet him at Middendorf's.

I like Middendorf's in Manchac and Spahr's in Des Allemandes better.

But in the city of New Orleans, Barrow's (Earhart Blvd near Carrollton) might be the best bet.

ETA: The River Shack has some excellent fried catfish. It's on the appetizer section of the menu. Comes with fries and is easily a big enough portion for one person.

I like thin fried catfish, but the last 2 times I stopped at Middendorfs in Manchac, it was so thin that you could not see anything inside of the batter. There was no taste of fish. It was like fried batter chips.

I like the way they serve it with the fresh cut fries, slaw, and pickles. It's not exactly thin cut (probably close enough, if that's what you're looking for), but it's solid for sure.

Tell him thin catfish isn't better than N. MS catfish.

Whole fried > Regular fillet > Thin fillet

It does strike me as sort of a weird thing for someone from N. Miss to specifically seek out in traveling New Orleans. Even a place like High Hat sort of styles itself as Mississippi Delta style food.

Same experience. Middendorf's sucks. Location doesn't matter. On top of the fish being paper thin, all fried dishes have zero seasoning/flavor. Just bland arse seafood like we're in Minnesota or something. My wife's family just tried to get me to stop there this weekend. I told them hell no and kept driving.
