Went to the original Morton's for the first time last night and was thoroughly impressed (had the 22oz Chicago style ribeye). Would put it up there in my top 3 all time

What are the best steaks the FDB has had this year?

34oz American wagyu tomahawk ribeye from Killen's steakhouse. I tossed out all table manners and gnawed the meat off the bone.

Wagyu Ribeye at Otto's in Fredericksburg, TX, most likely. The strip at Vic & Anthony's is up there as well.

That wagyu ribeye looks incredible. Only time I've had wagyu recently is underbelly in Houston

I had a Wagyu skirt steak at Vic & Anthony's about a year ago and it was fantastic.

Best steak I had this year is probably the 2 1/2" thick filets I cooked for the wife's birthday a couple months ago. Seared in the cast iron with olive oil and plenty of butter and finished in the oven. They were perfect but missing the smoke flavor I like so much from the pit. I'll have to try and reverse sear one day with my smoker and gas grill I just got last week

I may order beef if I'm traveling and get a hankering for red meat, but other than that, I'm cooking it at home. Lately, I'm hung up on a hanger steak from Whole Foods. Sous vide 132 degrees for four hours, then seared. Mushrooms, Worcestershire, horseradish and red wine help the cause.

I don't recall the price at Otto's, but do remember thinking that it was reasonable. Someone else picked up at the ticket at Vic & Anthony's.

The ribeye at Otto's was around $45 when I had it. We're going there in a few weeks...
