Hit or miss for steaks? Can you explain?

Been there before and had an excellent meal, other times I have been there and the steak was chewy and not prepared well. When it is right, they are the best in town.

I was thinking about going there, never had a steak from there. Is the off menu dry-aged Ribeye available all the time?

You have to say:

"I hear the weather in Manhattan is nice this time of year" or otherwise they'll deny the existence of said ribeye.

If they don't have the dry-aged... don't bother with steak.

I like Doe's OK but it is a guys place.

NOT good for dates. Someone told me that and I was all "??" until I took two different ladies. Both of them hated the place. Don't know why but it is not a hit with the womenz in my experience.

Great for a group of dudes to go get drunk and eat roasted animal though.

No. Call ahead and ask. If not go to Flemings.

Flemings fo sho.

Probably the best overall dining experience of the places mentioned. Great service every time I've gone

Flemings has been awesome every time that I have been. Very good atmosphere for date with the SO.

Don't go to Sullivan's. Doe's is ok but it's no where near the same level as some of the other fine dining options in BR.

Another vote for Flemings. Ask for Kevin or Greg. The food is great and the wait staff is some of the best in BR. Haven't had a bad meal there.

Great place to enjoy a steak. Laid back. Great food. Never had a bad experience. And not pretentious.

For the most part, yes. I'd assume they have it, but never hurts to call ahead and ask. They can reserve one for you if there's a chance of running out

Louisiana Lagniappe's are great.

Filet Louisianne is delicious but not on the menu.
Doe's porterhouse is a very close second

Just an update- went to Flemings last night with the wife. Was very impressed. I had the Wagyu NY Strip and she had a couple small plates. Nice bottle of wine, excellent service. Steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious.

I am glad we chose Flemings over Ruffinos for steak. We will go to Ruffinos for some more Louisiana style dishes.

Ruffino's aged steak doesn't exist anymore as far as I've been told. Asked about it last time I made reservations, and they said they no longer serve it.

Good call. Went to Ruffinos a couple times this past year, and it was blah both times. Several friends of mine have said lately that they think the place has gone downhill. I don't go enough to know if it has or hasn't, but it wasn't anything special the last two times I went.
