It's not killer, but it's the best BR has to offer. Try the Ferdie (roast beef, ham, and swiss) with mustard.

Momma's Pot Roast sandwich from Zeeland Street. You can get it a po-boy bun i think, but the meat is the star.

and yes, blah blah po-boy bread....but NOLA po-boy bread is only good for fried seafood, not a sloppy roast beef.

+1

I don't think they have their shite straight. It has potential to have excellent business, but they are too concerned about having a college/frat/sorority image.

Although rather costly, Bistro Byronz has servicable roast sanwiches.

It's not near campus but Off the Hook has a pretty good roast beef and good poboys. It's New Orleans style. Near campus I'm not too sure. Will have to get over and try Bear's. Heard good things about their roast beef.

Acme is close to campus. Might want to try them.

I pimp all overpass restaurant except this one. Their food is terrible and their staff is worse.

I feel the exact same way.

The only thing that place had going for it was crawfish pies, and since the one guy that made them died there's really not a reason to go there.

For the OP:
Acme
Pastime (sometimes it's good)
Bistro Byronz (but I get the pot roast)

Is this a cop out? Are they trying to do the bar and entertainment thing and just have food on the side? I know the summers are slow but to shut down all together. I am gonna have to scratch that place off my list.

Man, I think Pastime is so overrated, and it really hurts me to say that. I go there out of sentimentality alone (don't get me wrong, on game day this is the only place I will go for lunch), plus they don't have a shrimp poboy.

Do yourself a favor and get The Peacemaker from ACME, (it's half fried shrimp, half fried oyster) or the five napkin roast beef and bypass these other places. The Peacemaker is the best poboy in Baton Rouge, hands down.

To think I used to think you knew something about food. My mistake.

There is no one answer, and the word "best" is way overused on this board. Pocorello's has my favorite meatball, Acme has my favorite roast beef, etc.

the nola poboy bread doesn't stand a chance against a parasol's type roast beef, esp if it sits for more than a minute. it quickly turns into a knife and fork plate of soggy goo under the meat.

the bread works with fried seafood b/c the bread is delicate and light like cotton with a thin paper crust and doesn't smash the seafood out of of the sandwich....but it just has no body and can't stand up to a sloppy roast beef. An italian roll or bun, for example, is a far superior bread vessel for that type of sandwich.
