Pretty much asking what the title states. We will be driving from Hot Springs to Nashville later this month and wanted to stop in Memphis for lunch. Would love some recommendations's on solid BBQ that doesn't put us way off the interstate or at least is an easy short detour. TIA

Neely’s is right of the interstate but I have no idea if it’s any good

Coming in from Arkansas, you can get to Cozy Corner pretty quickly in the downtown area. There is a Central in East Memphis not far off of 240 where you will be driving by. Rendezvous wouldn't be too much of a detour either. BBQ Shop in Midtown wouldn't be too much of a detour either. Neeley's Interstate too

Neely's is good BBQ. Nothing extraordinary. Services was really slow, if that's a consideration.

My one and only interaction with Memphis bbq was at Leonard’s pit barbecue. I got the dry rub ribs, they were excellent.

I am a horrible person. To me, This is one of the best places to buy whatever you want.

Corky's on Poplar, easy on and off interstate

I personally never cared for Neely's. BBQ Shop and Central BBQ have always been my go-tos

The I-40 bridge is still closed so you will have to take the south loop. This will take you right by the I-240/Poplar exit. There is a central BBQ a half mile east of this exit on Poplar. Central is my favorite all around BBQ joint in memphis.

I've found Memphis BBQ Company can be really good or mediocre based on the handful of times I've been there.

Memphis BBQ Co is good but it’s way out of the OPs way. Central BBQ would be a half mile off the interstate he’ll be driving on.

Been to Memphis 100 plus times over the last 15 years. Germantown Commissary is the best and worth a little detour.

Definitely. I don’t remember it being more than 7 or 8 minutes off the interstate, but it’s been about a year since I’ve been.

I live less than 5 minutes from that Central on Poplar. I honestly don’t understand the hype about Central, I’d put it in the lower half of bbq I’ve ever had. I’ve liked chains in Chicago and random places not known for bbq more than it. And they haven’t served brisket for a while since prices are so high, not that it’s any good. It is fast casual which makes it pretty convenient and you shouldn’t be stuck there too long unless you go at a super busy time.

I like One n Only better, but again nothing special. My favorite place was Jerry Lawler’s on Germantown but they had no idea how to run a restaurant and it shut down mercifully.
