Thinking of picking up some jambalaya for a tailgate. Is Jambalaya Shoppe my best bet?

There are a few other places around town like Rice and Roux but from my understanding they all broke away from the jambalaya shoppe. I have had Matherne's pastalaya before and was presently surprised on how good it was.

Maybe order from a caterer who does it well. I'm not familiar with caterers who make it, but someone else might be.

Alexander's Market does a good one and has tailgate size packages. They advertise as having a festival champ cooking it. Not sure but it is a good one.

Call Tee Wayne's. Located off Highway 621 in Gonzales near Airline Highway.

He won the Jambalaya contest and puts out really good food.

Good call Will. Used to work with Tee Wayne, and can confirm he makes a really good one. Wouldn't doubt Alexander's makes a good one too, considering their roots (Murray's). Tim at Matherne's on Bluebonnet also caters jambalaya and makes a good one.

OP, give us an update on how it turns out-curious what it costs. Trying to justify buying a big rig

Alexander's Market jam is not good at all. Jambalaya Shoppe is total crap, and whoever said Dempsey's, no just no. Dempsey's jam will leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth all day.

Maybe that guy Will Cover mentioned might be good, but there are no stores or restaurants in BR worth buying pre-made jam from.

The best thing to do is find an individual who can make a good jam and just transport the pot to your gathering.

Agreed. Don't get Dempsey's. I do not like their jam.

the jambalaya shoppe on perkins is good. very popular in br for large quantities of jambalaya. but like anything good that gets popular, people on this board will talk about how terrible it is just because that's what they do.

LL, I know you have some allegiance towards Dempsey's and I don't like to continually rag on them. Some of their menu items are really good at an inexpensive price. Dempsey's fried seafood ranks up there with some of the best. Although, I've been staying away from fried foods....Plus, Gugs seems like a decent dude.

And yeah, their jam is not something you'd want a big pot of.

It used to be hit or miss, mostly hit. But that was a few years back. The last few times we've had it, it just wasn't good at all. Almost like it had been frozen and reheated.

This.

More importantly, he has won the Champ of Champs contest several times which is the pork and sausage version rather than just chicken.
He also has several people cooking for him who cook really good jambs.

Eh...I will agree to disagree. I like the jam a lot. Some days it's definitely better than others, but I'd rather Dempsey's over Jambalaya Shoppe all day.
