Magpie does not take itself very serious at all. But, it does take coffee pretty seriously. The varieties, roasting methods, regions, etc are not all different from the deeper enjoyment of beer.

Yea I hate places that by their products almost exclusively from local farmers..what a bunch of attention whores! Their coffee is amazing, that's all I care about.

I really like the place and think its the best in town coffee wise. But they have tricked their customers into thinking that everything is local. If you read their FB updates, they are denoting what ingredients are local and its only like the strawberries or blueberries, nothing else.

What's the deal with the coffee shop next to Roul's? Chi Alpha? I haven't heard much about it except for one person who told me it's sketchy. I peered in today and it looked ...sparse. To say the least.

The first thing to know about it is it is operated by Christians so they really aren't concerned with turning a profit in the least. The name itself gets you to that conclusion it is derived from the name of Jesus in Greek "Christ First" is what the name translates to for the Greek(fraternity and sorority peeps to know), and it stands out as being such s the Chi Omega crowd has a name that says Christ Last. In Revelations it is said that Jesus said (I Am) totally different thread for that one the Alpha and Omega, literally the beginning and the end. The church across the street from the first frat house has a coffee bar in the lobby and it is free. Highland has its own little secrets and I am one of the people that knows the walls painted in blue hold something beneath the paint.

Ah that explains a lot. Thanks. I had been told that they had a "pay as you want" policy.

The movie the "Son of God" will be released before Easter and in it one scene will stand out in it. Jesus wi read from the Tanach and after he is finished the elders of his village ask him if he in the Son of God. He answers it in the affirmative but they get angered by how he answers the question. He uses the name of God that was never spoken by Jews/Hebrews since the days of Moses by saying "I Am" which was given to Moses to let the Hebrews know the name of who had sent him when he returned to Egypt to free the slaves from their oppressors.

Really enjoyed the exchange. The support is easier to read then the criticism, but in the interest of continuous improvement an owner has to take it all in and keep trying to be better.

BTW, Magpie has a incredible photographer hanging in the cafe until the end of April.
