I've always thought the Korbel Extra Dry Brut was a great value in that price range, but I will have to give this one a try.

More like $9, but really anything under like $20 should be considered a mimosa maker and nothing else.

NYE should call for something around $50 at the absolute minimum which puts you at well known non vintage champagne.

I don't mean specifically only NYE. That just happens to be tomorrow which is why OP started this thread.

If you're looking for sparkling for a special occasion, like a NYE party, I would go much higher than $9 cava.

I'm also not a big sparkling drinker so I don't really like the cheaper stuff. This bottle is amazing though for $65ish:

Agree with Segura Viudas. Cristalino is good,as if Domaine Ste.Michelle. Maybe not $10, but reasonable.
