Any body been crawfishing around Manchac

The rain and warmer temps has been helping the pond boys out. What about wild crawfish? I ask because I am going after it rains on Friday.

Didn't know crawfish was a verb. Good info.

The biggest thing I know about crawfish is their water temp. to 'run'.

It's gotta be above 65F for any serious movement.

Good post.

Didn't know the water was still that warm.

I have no idea how warm the water is in Manchac my app doesn't gauge the water temp there. I know that around the Tchefuncte River I have been catching redfish so the water can't be bad, and that's with all of this rain aroun NYE.

I didn't think that Manchac was really a crawfish spot, but I might be mistaken....

I may be off base, but I think you may be wasting your time going while it's still pretty chilly like this. They burrow themselves in the mud when it gets old and are very lethargic. Depending on the weather I would wait until at least early March.

Most certainly mistaken, I clean house there year round except for cold winter months.

Temp in the water needs to be at least 65 degrees. That's why I was asking the question to find out who has been in Manchac and if the water temp has been at the mark. I'm fairly certain it has. I'm going.

Thanks for nothing but your opinions guy.

Good luck. Bring a thermometer. Let us know water temps and results.

Gonna use set nets or something else?

I never get them consistantly until March, but April is normally when I start getting decent numbers in South GA.

Hey Child, can you tell me where there is public prperty to crawfish on the north side of Manchac? I'm originally from houma, so I'm not familiar with this area. I just want to make sure I know I'm not going to accidents end up on private property. Thans!

Maurepas swamp would probably be better if you have a pirogue or don't mind doing a good bit of walking.

We use to live off Bayou Manchac. I would tie some bacon to a string and drop it down in the crawfish hole and pull them out.

I'd think the ditches along old Hwy 51 (the non elevated road that parallels I-55) would be prime crawfishing territory once the water warms up. Along the highway is part of the public right of way (belongs to the state), so I think you're fine to crawfish from the banks. Now, getting in a pirogue and poking around is another story--
