A drive or boat ride over to Pirate's Cove in Josephine is a nice day trip. Grab a burger and a beer or bushwacker, settle in, and people watch.

On one visit I saw an Amazon goddess in a bikini, as well as a heavily tatted muscle chick who, when challenged, tossed a frat boy across her shoulders and squatted him three times to the delight of the crowd.

We’ve been enjoying the Sloop under the bridge in Gulf Shores. Great Philly cheesesteak.

We've hit up Carver's Steakhouse in Orange Beach the past few trips down there. It's always been a great meal.

The Sloop is terrible. Please don’t go there. I’ll fight you if you take my seat at the bar under my logo sticker. Hard enough to get in there and I live 12 minutes away!

Hell I'd recommend different places than the usual list but every time I look them up they didn't make it and closed down. Wife's family enjoys going to Gulf Shores Steamer every trip.

I will add though we really enjoy going to the SanBar near steamers. Have a very good bushwaker & live music playing all outside.

Bennet Long Jr of the Long and Long brothers killed himself. His family has or had the Orange Beach Marina. Johnny Fisher formerly of the Hangout and The Gulf had the restaurants. Supposedly the restaurants were 4 plus million in the red and getting into lawsuits. Chef Briand from Fishers is now with Hope Farms in Fairhope opening a new place.

Not to get too side tracked….

Sloop is great. We also enjoy Beach House Kitchen on west beach. The Cove has an excellent Burger. Tin Top for Steaks and baked oysters. Voyagers in Perdido Beach Resort for special occasions. Waiting on the new Irish Bar Galway to open up. Menu looks appealing.

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach dining options (especially nicer places) are terrible for the amount of traffic and demand the area gets

Most nights better to just cook in the house/condo but eventually you want to go somewhere out to eat and it almost always disappoints

Will check out CoastAL this summer

I agree 100%

This area has found its niche market of tourist that want fried seafood and fish that doesn’t taste like fish. When I travel I’m overwhelmed with the abundance of food options that we don’t have here in LA.

Gulf is pretty good but not real good in Gulf fish. Great scenery, reasonable prices but eating is third

Wentzels is solid

Cobalt is top end and super scenery. If you into fried foods pass.

The Point in Perdido is good and very local and does all well and has a band usually. Desotos and Mikes in Gulf Shores are as authentic and family friendly as it comes.

Just curious, what are your thoughts on the original location?

On a totally different note, I try my best to avoid places that serve "whitefish" (typically basa or pangus) and pass it off to unknowing tourists as some sort of fresh Gulf delicasy.

We enjoyed dinner there tonight . It’s not great but it’s consistent and reasonable.

Pretty much every restaurant in Gulf Shores/OB unless you go to the more expensive places serve white fish.

A couple years ago I served fresh grouper tacos instead of white fish tacos. We had so many complaints from the tourists that the fish was too fishy. $2.15 a pound for white fish. $11.99 a pound for fresh grouper. What would you do as a business owner?

We will give it a shot again at some point. The one time we went (march 2024) I ordered a ribeye. It was top 5 worst steaks Ive ever had

On the positive side, my wife got a fish dish that was very good.

Service was very good also.
