The Steam might be good for you.

Hell, I I might even suggest the Bourbon Ale if you really are a liquor guy. Obviously it's not rum, but it you like bourbon it could be good. Be warned, the flavors are going to be pretty robust. Could be a big turn off for you. Kind of a boom or bust recommendation.

I'd avoid Angry Orchard. And honestly, I've never had a Boddington's. Never piqued my interest.

Just try stuff, as much as possible, and you'll eventually find a few styles you like. Trying new things is half the fun.

Try the fat tire, anchor Steam and the Kentucky bourbon Ale if you like bourbon.

If you're in Texas, I'd recommend the St. Arnold amber over the Abita amber

ETA: Also look for Karbach mother-in-lager

May not have it in Dallas. But I think it's a great introduction to craft beer.

I hate Heineken and Corona and all "bitter" beers.

Heineken and Corona are not "bitter" beers, they are skunked beers. Hint, as a rule of thumb, stay away from all green and clear bottles.
