That tap room looks pretty nice.

Is this the same brewery that was talked about before that hired the Affliction graphic designed for their labels? If so, looks like they toned it down a lot, and that's a good thing.

It does look legit, much better than I thought it would when I saw their label designs

Nothing that I know of past the 'dreaming' stage.

What is the taproom environment like in S-port and BR? I find I spend more time in taprooms, because I can find a more varied selection of beers at a taproom, rather than just the beers from that one brewery. I usually go to the breweries for special releases.

More local breweries means more local selections at the taprooms and less overlap between taprooms. The more different local beers you have, the more likely you are going to find that every taproom doesn't carry pretty much the same stuff that every other taproom in town carries.

Do the local laws handcuff people from opening taprooms? If so, that is where I would focus my efforts on getting laws changed (in addition to changing the brewery regulations).

There are plenty of taprooms in BR, can't speak for Shreveport. Chimes, Chimes East, Bulldog, Corporate Brew & Draft, Pelican House, new one downtown.

There's plenty of overlap as well, especially considering most of them have a shite ton of taps. I think the low end is in the 70s, although the one downtown probably has less... haven't been there yet.

We don't have anything that resembles a true taproom, other than the brewery taprooms.

It's sad.

Somebody with more money than me needs to open one, because pending location, it would kill. A Bulldog, although hated on by many on this site, would kill in Shreveport.

The Great Raft taproom is always packed.

B sent me this earlier, not including new orleans.

Here's a list of cities that have as many or more breweries than BR:

Hammond
Broussard
Marksville
Shreveport
Bossier City
Abita Springs
Covington
Mandeville
Arnaudville
Thibodaux

It's going to be really hard in BR unless they relax zoning to allow a brewery in something other than industrial zoning.

Who wants to open a brewery and taproom out on Choctaw?

Tin Roof really did about the best they could with location/zoning.

Great raft is in an industrial area and they seem to be doing just fine. Ive visited lots and lots of breweries and lots of them are thriving in industrial complexes. It can be done. There is basically zero competition in br, if someone opened a good brewery and it would kill.

We need brewpubs as well downtown would be a great place to look.

Beer tourism is a real thing that could be easily captured in br if done right.

LA is nowhere close to being saturated. Are there any good brewpubs that sell their own beer and food in LA? Those places do really well in Portland. McMenamins has 20 brewpubs just by themselves.

People love good brewpubs. I think I saw statistics that show that brewpubs have a much higher success rate than non-brewpub restaurants. I think even if the beer is not great, you can be successful as a brewpub, if your food is good, because you can attract the non-maven people who wouldn't be interested a taproom. I get my wife to go to brewpubs all the time, because the food is good. She won't go to a taproom with me, 'cuz she's not into craft beer like I am.

ETA: Will a brewery have to be in an industrial area if they sell food, as well?

I don't remember much about where Great Raft is in Shreveport.

I just think some relaxation of the zoning restrictions would help entice some more to open. I understand the powers that be don't want someone opening up a brewery next to a school, but there's no reason a brewery shouldn't be able to occupy a C-AB1 or C-AB2 commercial zoning.
