$4000 Bottle of Cognac?

I went to International Market off of Cleary in Metairie the other day and noticed a bottle of cognac for $3999.99. Sorry, I didn't take note of what kind. Who the hell would buy that?
I actually asked the cashier about it and she said they sold one a year ago to a father giving a wedding gift to his daughter.
They also had several other bottles with similar prices. I don't see how they can justify tying up so much money in inventory and only sporadic sales.

I'm guessing it was a bottle of Louis Xlll. I've had it many times but I'd never buy it. It's fine though I'd rather just get a bottle of XO for 130 bucks. Not worth it at all. Most of the people I know who buy it get it just because it's expensive and to show off.

If it was a bottle of Remy Martin King Louis XIII for $4000, that's a ripoff. The last time I purchased a bottle for a customer it was under $3000. If you've ever handled the bottle's packaging, you'll know why it's expensive. The case holding the bottle mechanically slides open after you unbuckle the clasp/lock. Also the cognac is bottled in a Baccarat Crystal Decanter. The attention to detail and quality is top notch, that's why I believe people with disposable income purchase these expensive things.

I would buy it and pour it all into a half drunk 2 liter of Mountain Dew and party hardy

Maybe that's why they can afford to stock it.

My buddy bought a pour at a wedding because it was the last shot and they let him keep the bottle (which can sell for 100+). I had a taste and was pretty underwhelmed. Then again I'm not a cognac guy so I have no reference or idea what the frick I'm talking about.
