The Ginza district of Chuo, Tokyo, is widely recognized as one of the world’s most luxurious shopping centers. Amid the numerous flagship stores, including Chanel, Dior, and Sony, lies a dull, tan-colored office building. Tucked away in its basement, just a glass door away from a subway platform, is Sukiyabashi Jiro—a tiny sushi bar with only 10 seats and no bathroom on the premises, but it’s enough to have earned three Michelin stars. Behind the sushi bar, a bald, bespectacled, 86-year-old chef meticulously sculpts his miniature gems like a culinary Michelangelo. His name is Jiro Ono, and he is, according to acclaimed chefs Joël Robuchon, Eric Ripert, Anthony Bourdain, and countless others, hailed as the greatest sushi chef in the world. “I was blown away by the quality of the sushi, especially the rice

It's unfortunate that Michelin only has guides for New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington DC in the US. They also used to have them for Los Angeles and Las Vegas but stopped in 2010.

We tried to get seats there...all were full when we were there in July.

We did do Kikunoi, l'effervesence, and Sushi Bar Yasuda...all were outstanding but the 2 star l'effervesence stood out even above the 3 star Kikunoi. It was only behind Eleven Madison for best meal of our lives...and we have recently been to number one restaurant in the world, Osteria francescana

This post was so over the top, it flew by brag at light speed and topped out at just plain awesome. Seriously, I'm jealous of your food experiences.

its a super interesting documentary.

I thought it was very interesting how the older son i expected to just work there till the father retires, where as the younger son was sorta sent out on his own.

The focus on perfecting a craft is interesting.

Great doc, but I googled for some more info about Jiro and discovered he isn't a huge fan of Americans. Meh. Oh well.

Yeah. His son probably has a completely different attitude.

Hard to blame the guy (Jiro).

Yep. He'd probably like to pass on serving me or my family, particularly my sushi loving sons, one of which is a Marine.

I'll pass on patronizing or praising him. He can do as he wishes, and I can, too.
