Antoine's
Several of those places may be 'classic' in tradition but are mediocre at best in quality.

It's turned to complete shite. The last two times I've gone were complete jokes.

Antoine's is regarded as pretty bad nowadays.

sad to hear that
My wife and I had a regular waiter there at one point. We could go there like a year between trips and Richard would know what drinks we wanted without even asking. Best waiter Ive ever seen by far. A total pro.
the chateau briand, with marchand de vin..... the legendary steak of my life

While it is nowhere near the best in the city, Antoine's is without a doubt a classic New Orleans restaurant.

Not arguing that. I go with my family for Christmas lunch every year (their choice) and the building itself and history are terrific. Food...not so much. Which isn't to say you can't get a good meal there, but I really don't think they try as hard as they could.

Gwendolyn Knapp is a troll. Who does she think reads Eater? People who haven't heard of these former powers.
Useless lists are useless.

I hate most of these lists. Even Thrillist, which is an entertaining site, throws meh places into the mix.
If I'm visiting somewhere, and no one here has suggestions (which is never), I try to look on other forums like Chowhound and stuff.

I love Antoine's and the Hermes bar next door. Never once been disappointed in any meal I have had

I'm there on Christmas eve lunch every year with my family as well. Can't beat the atmosphere, and the food is always pretty damn good too even with the amount of people they are serving.

one time a few years ago, my family and I were at Antoine's and the back waiter replaced my sister's ice cubes with his bare hands. needless to say we took a few years off after that. also, when people walk in the back wearing jeans, it's a turn off.

Been to all at one point or another. Don't really think of Port of Call as a classic New Orleans restaurant.

50/50 for me. Only thing that aggravated me was that the muff wasn't from CG. With that said, I love the muffs from CB.
Richard was the man at Antoine's. It's mostly dog sh*t now.

Due to the size of our group, we're limited to ordering either a filet or trout. This year, half of our party ended up sending the steak back because they were undercooked to the point of being inedible.
