Damn that looks good, I like how you take even simple things and make them look really good.
I haven't had photoshop a week yet but I use this place as my practice. Hope to be able to get the hang of it some day.

On the symbol--I added the Blending Options; Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Bevel/Emboss, and then for the Colt pic, I just trimmed the parts showing outside of the symbol.
Best thing to do IMO, is play around with every little thing that you can and learn a lot of stuff by trial and error. Whatever image you use, you can play around with it as much as you want and as long as you don't save it as the same file name, you won't ever mess up your original image.

I just learned about the "blending options"
I used them to make a sig for someone here, definitely a cool effect(s).
Well to be honest it was the Farks here that inspired me to want to start messing around.
I only ever edited images when I was making Icons for my cellphone. Or fixing up some pictures.
This board kinda gives you tasks, and it makes for fun practice.
