Id say let someone else take the risk on Stanton

I think I gotta agree with rondo, Donaldson is who I would take. I would not take Kershaw in a 12 team league

Machado at SS is $$$ too. 100/35/100/20. Tulo was a top 5 guy for years doing less

Arenado - ehh idk if I can do him at 5. power should play for 30 HR but I don't see the R or RBI coming close from a year ago

Could do Rizzo

I am an Astrotard and fap to Correa. With that said, if they are using Yahoo's standard player pool where Machado is SS eligible, I'd take him over Correa every single time.

4. David Price (Bos - SP)
5. Dallas Keuchel (Hou - SP)
6. Johnny Cueto (SF - SP)
7. Brian Dozier (Min - 2B)
8. Anthony Rendón (Was - 2B,3B)
9. Brett Gardner (NYY - OF)
10. Brian McCann (NYY - C,1B)
11. Huston Street (LAA - RP)
12. Jeff Samardzija (SF - SP)
13. Daniel Murphy (Was - 1B,2B,3B)
14. David Peralta (Ari - OF)
15. Dexter Fowler (ChC - OF)
16. Sean Doolittle (Oak - RP)
17. Luis Severino (NYY - SP)
18. Mike Leake (StL - SP)
19. Brock Holt (Bos - 1B,2B,3B,SS,OF)
20. Kevin Kiermaier (TB - OF)

as far as pitchers, try and come out with 2 studs. Dont go in saying "im going to pick 5 bats" blah blah blah. Go with the flow, if the value is there, nab the guy.

Ill also ask, what is your scoring? If BA AVG, Altuve is in discussion for 5th overall.

if you're looking for a power bat, like others have said, Donaldson, Stanton, or Correa for position scarcity(tho i tend not to worry too much about that early on).

As great as Correa will be, I'm not even considering him at 5, at all

Especially with Machado SS eligible. Nope

So Machado at 5 might be the best value at SS on yahoo?

Correa's best projections is what Machado actually did last season (30+ HR, 20SB). Give me the guy who already has done it and is eligible at another position.

edit: if you choose to go SS at #5

Machado was the 9th best hitter on ESPN player rater

The highest rated SS was Correa at 50 overall

Donaldson was 3

With Machado's dual eligibility, I'd lean that way.

On draft strategy, I prefer to go hitting early and often. With that said, I'm comfortable with building a staff without bonafide aces in a non-roto while others may not. I'd go 7-8 rounds straight to start off a draft without taking a pitcher. May not be ideal, but it works for me.

If I go Machado at 5 and assume he will be my slotted SS... Who do I look for at 3B later? 3rd base seems to be thin too as far as power hitters

Taking Machado shouldn't stop you from taking a SS if the value is there with the picks you have afterwards. His SS eligibility is an added bonus. You don't necessarily have to wait for a 3B later. BPA.

Don't really agree with that. If you're drafting Machado at #5, it's to play SS. Or else you draft Donaldson there as your 3B. Machado is the #1 SS if he is eligible at SS. He is still ranked between 2-4 at the 3B position depending on how you rank Arenado & Bryant. So I can't draft him at #5 to play 3b if there are potentially 3 other players better than him at that position.

Frazier's ADP is around 45 and K Seagers ADP is 75. There are 2 or 3 other 3B ranked in between those two. You'd be fine with any of them in a H2H, IMO. After Seager is when the drop off starts. You still have guys like Beltre, Rendon, Longo etc available after Seager, but that's where they all start having question marks.

Machado is worthy of a top 5 pick regardless of whether or not he has SS eligibility. Why wouldn't I take him at 5 and start him at 3rd? Ideally I would start him at SS, but what if I landed Tulo in the late 3rd or somewhere in the 4th? I'd move Machado to 3rd and start Tulo at SS. Take Machado shouldn't stop him from taking a SS or 3B if the value is there.

Machado's position eligibility on Yahoo gives him the option to wait if he wanted to. That doesn't mean he has to. Neither does it mean he has to start Machado at one position or the other.

Because drafting the #1 overall player at the shallowist position and then moving him out of there to play somewhere else is just poor draft strategy. You draft him and be done with the position until later in the draft if you want a backup bench SS.

And Tulos ADP is what it is right now because he plays SS. With his health concern and projected stat line at this stage in his career, his ADP would be a lot lower if that SS wasn't next to his name. Similar to Matt Kemp. There is absolutely no way someone can convince me to take him if I already have the #1 guy at his position. They'll be guys with similar projected stat lines at other positions for the next 40 picks.

Edit: I wouldn't be able to bring myself to draft an often injured SS in the top 5 rounds if I already have Machado there. Way too much value/needs still available at other positions than taking a second SS there.

He's arguably the top third baseman as well. That point is moot. Rankings are also subjective. There's also UTIL you could slot another elite player at the same position at. If I took Goldschmidt in the 1st and for whatever reason Rizzo is there in the second, do I have to pass since I already filled the position?

We'll just agree to disagree. I take BPA regardless of position if the value is there. That other stuff will always work itself out. Some leagues utilize multiple UTIL, CI, and/or MI spots. You're limiting yourself taking the best available player by going through your draft with the mindset you have to fill each position first.
