Although Donald Trump won the nomination “fair and square,” the GOP is not his party, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Monday on a local radio show.

“It is no one person’s party. Donald Trump won the primary fair and square,” Ryan said during an interview on WTMJ in Milwaukee after conservative host Charlie Sykes asked if the GOP was now Trump’s party.

“As a party leader, as the highest elected official in the party, I have always felt a duty to the process, to democracy, to the primary voter who must be respected. And he won this fair and square,” Ryan added. “But no one person controls this party. This is a bottom-up, organic grassroots party based on conservative principles.”

Wow! on election day Ryan gets in one more hit...Tacky, nasty man! I never really knew he was as egotistical as Romney. Sad! I am hoping Ryan was misquoted and taken out of context somehow...

Ryan's plan which few care about; because they know they all say the same load of crap for over 30 years. And never follow through and fix anything but their slush fund accounts to add more 0's... repeat and rinse...

Ryan's plan, I believe, is called OUR WAY. He needs to change it to HIS WAY.

He is hopefully speaking the truth. No one person owns a political party...I hope.

If he turns the party over to a nominee he alienates a good portion of the party.

And he'll be "shocked" when he's replaced.

The GOPe has crapped on the Tea Party movement and now Donald Trump. It is time for people to realize they do not care about what their constituents want.

The Democrats have a similar problem. Their constituents wanted Bernie.

He needs to pay, and pay with the loss of the Speaker's gavel. He thinks he is going to run in 4 years and beat Hillary, but he will do it without my vote. NeverRyan.

this answer was about as anodyne as it could have been. i guess he should have said "yes donald is in full control even though he and his own VP pick still publicly disagree on certain things"

LJL at all the idiots just desperate to blame anyone but the shitty candidate himself

Ryan literally says that the party is about ideas, not a single person

and Trump fans find a problem with this

That's where Ryan is wrong. Even if Trump loses the election, he will be a force within the party and wield more influence than any other single member of the party.

I have grown to be so disappointed in Ryan. He talks out of both sides of his mouth and seems to miss the obvious that the Republican Party will and must change. It won't remain his tried, true and failing Republican Party.
