Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook, the NBA's reigning MVP, has signed a five-year, $205 million contract extension, league sources told ESPN.

The deal starts with the 2018-19 season, and delivers Westbrook the biggest guaranteed contract in NBA history -- six seasons and $233 million through 2022-23.

Some of the initial chatter I'm seeing around this is that Melo likely stays for his option year which will make it hard for George to want to leave. That is being said without seeing how this team meshes, but if they're a top 4 seed like most expect, this could be the new core and a team the Pels will have to climb over on their way to contention.

I'm just glad to see that some 'star' players want to stick with their original teams.

I don't see how melo, Westbrook and George stay together. That will push them well into the luxury tax. I don't think they can sustain it. I'd be floored if George is there next year.

It's really unfortunate both of our elite guys are big men. It'd be so nice if we could trade cousins for a butler or George, it would change the whole potential of our team just on how the league is.

My personal opinion is that the OKC experiment is not going to work. I feel like the alpha dog personalities of Russ, PG, and Melo are not going to mesh at all. They all want to take the last shot, but only one of them can. Who is gonna willingly drop their ideologies that made them into the superstars they are today?
