I'd also suggest 7 Wonders, really a brilliant game that plays well at any level.
This is one I struggle to like. There's no denying it's popular but I just can't bring myself to enjoy it. If it's suggested, I always go along but I pout inwardly.

We play Monopoly on the iPad but that is about it. The GF give me a first edition Star Wars Monopoly 2 Christmases ago but still have not played it.

Monopoly
Risk
Star Wars the Interactive Video Board Game
Life
Quelf (great party game)
I've never played any of those games in the OP and they all look pretty awesome.

Because it's almost like personal and more complicated solitaire?

There@ board game conventions where creators let buyers play and purchase ther board games. Board games are alive and well.
I played one recently called Ginkgopolis...it was pretty intense.

Any of the board games mentioned have a good iPad version? I like to play strategy games while I'm on a plane, but there are only so many times I can play monopoly or Dominion. I am pissed that Stratego hasn't been converted to a good phone/tablet app.

I don;t have an ipad, but supposedly board gaming is very well received on it.
Apparently the Ghost Stories game is great. ad, because that game is fun.
I know the Carcassonne Android version is solid.

Growing up my family always played a lot of board games so i still have a soft spot for Clue, Scattergories, and Monopoly.
For more adult games, I do enjoy Catan, Stratego, and Game of Thrones.
Has anyone ever played Atmosfear? My friends and I used to pee our pants playing this in the dark during slumber parties. One of those games were you put a video on the TV while you play. Probably super cheesy now, but definitely cool as a kid.

I LOVE board games, especially Axis and ALlies. But it is god damn impossible to find the perfect 4 friends to play that game.
There was a period in high school where we had a legit group that would play that game before we went out on the weekends.

Haven't played many board games in a while, so:
Cards Against Humanity (not a board game, but fricking awesome)
Risk

6th Battlestar Galactica, but I don't get to play it enough. Will probably try the solo option next week.
Is like a math/resource management game.
A lot of fun, but only for certain types.
Also, recently got Mr. Jack in New York, it's like Chess, but probably more fun (and I enjoy chess).

Ok, I am in the right thread this time ....
Great thread. I love board games but with little ones in the house taking all the free time plus hard to keep little hands out of boxes (carrying off pieces) its been hard to find the time last few years. Oldest is 9 now and starting to show an interest in more involved type games. Which ones of these do you think would be worth trying to teach her? She likes trying MTG and has started getting into comic books (yay lol) and I am really getting the bug to get some new games. We normall all play monopoly, sometimes partial game of Risk, want to try more games with strategy, development with her
On another note, anyone have the latest game informer that came out the other day? They had a new comic book collectible game in the new products section. Can't remember now which one it was , think Marvel. May try and pick that up to try with her

Ticket to Ride with the 1910 expansion is very very good. Nice entry level gameplay with enough strategy to keep adults interested. And they learn national geography. Not a bad mix.

Marvel Legendary. Never played heard it was ok. There's an independent publisher who made one that gets good reviews: LINK
Can be bought on amazon. Supposedly, very solid game and better than Legendary.

Thanks, will check those out. Was thinking about a comic or superhero ccg since she can keep those straight a little more. She likes the MTG premise but it gets a little complicated for her. Looking forward to the 3 day weekend now hahah. Will definitely pick up a new board game or 2 and do some amazon shopping
