Another vote for the AirPods. Buy em and don't look back.

I contemplating getting the Beats X because I wanted the advantage that comes with the quick connection to Apple devices. I also was unsure with the size of the AirPods and the fact that they are two separate ear buds (thinking i'd lose them).

After seeing the size and extra bulk that the Beats X had (the lanyard alone seemed huge to me), I got the AirPods. They sounds great. While my tended to fall out of my ears when running, a few rubber ear inserts make them fit perfectly. And if you are scared of losing them, they make lanyards that tie to each ear bud.

Same question any good waterproof versions that can be used while swimming?

Think Bose just announced "truly wireless" earbuds that are sport-focused. Not out yet I don't think, and not sure if you can truly use them for swimming (promo image has them wet and on a towel, though).

As for earbuds generally, I'm waiting on the B&O E8s before I decide on AirPods

i got the wireless powerbeats 2 on sale for like $90 right after the 3's were released. I love them.

I've seen the 3's on sale for $120, and would recommend those, as the battery life is double that of the 2's.

I have some soundpeats QX7 that are pretty good, bought them on rec from this site.

Not going to be of the same quality as the ones listed in this thread, but they were like $15, and do just fine for workouts

AirPods are my favorite tech purchase I've made in a long time. I would say they are my most used, but being an accessory that's hard to do. I probably use them 2-3 hours a day on average though.

FWIW, I have a pair of B&O H6's and Senheiser HD650s. Obviously the AirPods can't compete on sound quality, but I do find myself using the AirPods more often than not even at home when I can get out the premium cans.

I wish that B&O would make a bluetooth version of the H6, but it doesn't seem like they are interested for whatever reason.

I initially purchased the Beats X because I knew that it would be much longer before AirPods would be available for retail purchase. The only complaint that I had while using them was that I felt that the wires running from the back of each side of my neck to each ear seemed to be too long, and stiff, which caused it to somewhat protrude out when the ear buds were in place. I used the Beats X for a couple of months until the volume rocker/mute button quit responding. I contacted Apple about the problem and they quickly sent me a replacement set of Beats X. While waiting for the replacement, I went ahead and ordered some AirPods through Best Buy because they had them in stock through their website, unlike any of my local retail stores in Shreveport/Bossier City. I got the AirPods within 2 days, (just before my replacement Beats X arrived). I have to admit, since using the AirPods, I have yet to even open the package containing the Beats X ear buds because I was amazed by the sound, comfort, and battery life that the AirPods offer. That being said, is anyone interested in purchasing a brand new, unopened box containing never before used white colored Beats X for less than what they'd cost in a retail store?

Exactly why I waited. Glad I went ahead and got the AirPods over the Beats X

Not sure why people are downvoting the first response that suggested AirPods. I guess the /thread rustled some jimmies...

The sound and fit are good and the function is fantastic (though I have Mac/Apple products to pair with). I’ve been very happy with them.

I didn't downvote, but they're probably downvoting because he treated it as the only worthwhile option.

FWIW I'm looking hard at AirPods after months of shitting on them. I just didn't like the idea of paying a premium for mediocre sound quality. But people rave about them so much that I'm considering it. In addition to the B&O e8 coming out next month, it looks like Sony has their new AirPods competitor coming out in Oct as well, so there should be several premium options soon.

I read an interesting article (I'll have to find again and link) that discussed how airpods are actually cheap, relative to their internal components and construction. Basically they surmised that Apple's margins on these are much thinner than competitors' in this space and they probably could easily retail for $200. It made an assumption that Apple was purposefully trying to get these into the hands of as many people as possible in order to break into the wireless headphone market, because Apple believed that if they could convince people to try them, most would become big fans of the product.

I recommend that you try a pair hands on before considering them to only produce mediocre sound quality. I initially assumed the same, but my mind was changed almost immediately upon firing them up for the first time.

I've heard them (admittedly only once for a few minutes), and my impression was sound quality akin to a 30ish dollar wired headphone. So not bad, but not particularly impressive. In general you're losing SQ in wireless, but for example, I found them considerably inferior to Bose QC35s (more expensive and totally different).

If I get them it'll be for convenience, not SQ. But I want to see if the others coming out compare favorably first.

no, they work as regular bluetooth headphones for any device. They just can't auto-pair with non-apple devices.
