So I got woken up at 2:30 am Tuesday morning with stomach pains and couldn't get back to sleep.

At 9:00 am the pain was worse and localized to my lower right side, typical Appendicitis symptoms.
I drove to the ER to get checked out.

I was in and out of surgery in time to watch the CWS.

I've been home for a couple of days and the discomfort is waning. No fever, my appetite is good.

Here is my question, while I'm passing enough gas to inflate a fleet of zeppelins, still no poop. I'm hopeful I can unload today.

Is this normal?

It's normal. Usually takes 3-5 days. As long as you're passing gas you're fine.

And it sounds like you're on the normal course for pain. Day after you usually feel like you got run over. By day 3 or 4, you feel like you can get back to normal stuff, but tire easily

Got to get off the pain meds if you want to take a dump. That stuff will lock you up.

Took me about 2 days to recover from mine. If you're still hurting by Monday, go to your doc

I was prescribed Percocet 7.5/325 to be used for pain every 4-6 hours. I just looked up the common side effects:

Drowsiness - yes
Nausea - no
Vomiting - no
Dizziness - no
Lightheadedness - no
Constipation - yes
Weakness - no
Itching - yes
Euphoria - no

My pain is definitely subsiding, I took half dose this morning. I'm hopeful that today will be my last day of meds and my dump cycle will return to normal.

Stop taking pain meds if you don't need them.

It takes a while for your bowels to wake up if they put you under general anesthesia. Couple that with 7.5 Percs and you def won't shite.

Go get some Colace - take 1Am & 1Pm
And some Miralax.

I had same procedure back in Oct. & had to take a colonoscopy prep to "reset" my bowels about a month after. Being jammed up like that was one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever been through.

Start taking a probiotic supplement daily and don't stop.

Colon health is extremely important.

I'm currently watching My mother suffer from complications due to diverticulitis and its nothing pretty. 5 operations and over 90 days in the hospital and still not in the clear.

They should have prescribed a stool softener for you to take or recommended an OTC to buy before you were discharged from the hospital. Pain meds cause constipation.

Also.....make sure you aren't just laying around all day. Need to be up and walking around. Better for your recovery and will help get your bowels moving and prevent intense gas pain. Stay within your activity restrictions from your surgeon though.

When I had laparoscopic surgery, the last thing I wanted to do was go to the bathroom. I didn't want to do anything that would strain my abdominal muscles. Hurt like hell to breathe deep or laugh

Opioid induced constipation. Some OTC stool softeners should help

Thanks everyone.

Went to the store and got the essentials plus a stool softener.

My plan is no more pain meds today, take the poop meds and wait for "that feeling".

Like someone mentioned.....laughing and coughing causes the most discomfort but holding your belly helps.

Oh.. and bend at the knees...

Cheers

Watch out on the stool softener

I got scar on my arm from after my appendectomy. I came back from thanksgiving break early to check up on the school a i missed. Was walking from the union parking to Middleton. Decided that I had to go. Sprinted to the union bathroom, tossed my shorts down, sprayed all over the toilet on my down, the seat was up so I slip, my arm flings across and slices against the toilet paper holder. blood and shite was everywhere.

Had to run to health center to get it cleaned up. Blood and shi

When at home....have a pillow near you and use that as a splint every time you cough, sneeze, laugh, etc.

Had open appendectomy a long time ago. Sucked for at least a couple of weeks.

Had laparoscopic cholecystectomy more recently. Piece of cake.
