Flight leaves New Orleans at 5:15am Wednesday morning for Houston, we have a 59 minute layover and connecting flight (international) leaving at 7:26 am

Weather is showing 90% chance of thunderstorms Wednesday morning starting at 4:00 am and ending around 10:00 am... What are the chances that flights out of New Orleans are delayed on Wednesday?

I could rent a car and drive to Houston tomorrow night and catch connecting flight with no problems

Interesting dilemma.

Weather Underground shows around a 75% chance of rain at 5:00 AM, and for a few hours before and after. But only 0.1 inches of accumulation for Wednesday. The rain actually starts on Tuesday, just before midnight. And WU expects 0.2 inches on Tuesday. So if they are right the heaviest rain is late Tuesday and by 5:00 it will be light rain. As things stand now your are probably OK, but I'd check it again tomorrow.

Based on the current forecast, I would fly. That will obviously be the first flight out so you won't have to worry about the plane becoming delayed on the way to New Orleans that morning. Also will you be looking at any cancellation/change fees?

I'm getting ready to call and find out. I looked at all the delayed flights out of NOLA this morning and got nervous. Forecast doesn't look as bad Wednesday though.

Where are you flying internationally? I'd say your chances of being delayed that early in the morning are extremely low. Also if there's more flights to your international destination later in the morning you should be okay.

United currently does not have any waivers out so you'd be stuck paying a change fee, which is not worth it. If there is in fact a crew delay for that flight, you will likely know the night before. If that happens, you can probably change your flight to leave from Baton Rouge or Lafayette and still make that connecting flight instead of driving all the way to IAH
