Lula Restaurant + Distillery on St. Charles opens today

A few of my friends went to the soft opening this weekend and said it is awesome. The distillery equipment looks really cool and visible from the restaurant. Anyone else going to check it out this week?

Went yesterday for a soft opening lunch. The ambience is pretty cool and the distillery view is a neat addition.
Had the boudin stuffed eggrolls and pork sausage skewered on sugarcane stalks as appetizers. Would definitely get both again. Had the rabbit and white beans entree, it was OK. Others at the table had the chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, and pork sandwich. The burger was on the overcooked side but the others enjoyed their sandwiches. Tried a few different cocktails, all were great. Will probably work Lula into my regular rotation.

We went Friday night. Had the pork skewers, boudin egg rolls and escargot for apps. The skewers and rolls were fantastic, escargot just ok.
For entrees, I had the skirt steak. Also at the table we had the gulf shrimp, boudin stuffed quail, and the pork roast.
Mine was cooked well, kinda bland seasoning, but enjoyable. The shrimp had good flavor, but I'd have preferred they been peeled before being glazed. You lose a little bit of the flavor after peeling them. The quail was delicious, but some others at the table didn't care for it. The pork was outstanding, and our favorite entree.
All of the drinks we had were delicious as well, had my fair share of mojitos.
I liked the atmosphere, and the Barrel Room looks like a pretty cool spot for private dining. The distillery equipment is very cool as well. Hope they do well.

Had a great lunch at Lula today. Split a bunch of things - smoked pompano & avocado dip, boudin eggrolls, spicy garlic boiled shrimp, skirt steak salad, burger and pork tenderloin sandwich. The pork tenderloin sandwich is seriously good. Tender slices of marinated pork with thin slices of pear. The fries are fresh cut, although a few were a little soggy. The pompano and avocado is essentially guacomole with smoked fish and it is very fresh and a huge portion. Actually, all the portions were large. We also got to watch the still in action...they were making vodka today. Very cool stuff. We will definitely be back.
