Anyone have personal recommendations on unique European spots to enjoy NYE?

Spent NYE in Paris 6 years ago. It was cool, but even in Paris and sitting under the Eiffel Tower as midnight struck, it was as anti-climactic as a NYE in the states.

However, the whole trip was awesome. Left Christmas afternoon spent about 8 days there, train trip to Champagne region. Cold, but great trip.

We'll be in Amsterdam on NYE

We've looked extensively for fun but relatively low key options and have concluded there aren't any.

It's going to be a massive clusterfrick.

Prague

Don't they have massive firework wars among revelers there? Had friends that lived there years ago and they would leave town to get away from the chaos.

We were in Prague 3 years ago for NYE. Great fireworks show on the river. We were on the Charles bridge with thousands of others. It got a little rowdy with some champagne being sprayed, but nothing out of hand.

To me NYE somewhere else (away from friends & family) is anti-climactic. I've done it in the tropics and in ski lodge locations and I just ended up wanting to go home and be around folks I knew and liked/loved.

Maybe it's a Christmas seasonal hangover.

I'm not much of a cold weather person so I'd go Malta or Spain or Greece or southern Italy (maybe Sicily?) if pushed to spend NYE in Europe.
