Looking to purchase one of these two models next week. Best deal I have found on the gen 2's are on Amazon for $1200 which include the 83/200 and lss-2 transducers.
Found one supposedly lightly used hds9 gen 3 for $1200 which only includes head unit, cables, and manuals. Did find one new in box gen3 with 83/200 transducer for $1450.

I bought the gen 2. Haven't used it yet, but wasn't worth the price increase for me to go gen 3.

Bought a HDS 7 and returned it twice under warranty for water intrusion, third time was out of warranty. No longer a fan
Bought the Hook 9 last year and honestly it works just as well unless you are planning to link a lot of peripherals up with it. A good bit cheaper as well

Have the hds 5 gen 2 in my mudboat and The hds 9 gen 3 in the bay boat. Very happy with both. Like the map compatibility with them. As far as differences, I like the touch screen and speed of map loading in the gen 3. Can't go wrong with either IMO.

I have the hds 7 gen 2 and have had an elite 7 which is now the hook. Both great units but the hds is far better. If you can get a 3 cheap I'd go that route. The gen 2 are good but I'm sure they will be updating from the 3, gonwith the 3. It has more features
Also if you need a map card of the whole coast hit me up. I make custom map cards, several ob fellas have them

I would definitely go with the gen 3. Faster, touch screen, all kind of improvements.

Appreciate the input guys
I talked to one guy who is thinking of selling me a new in box gen2 for $1000. Guess he hasnt received the interest that he thought he would.
Would y'all go with that or spend an extra $425 for new gen3?

Gen 2 is touch screen as well. My dad has an HDS 9 Gen 2 in his boat and it's awesome.

Gen 3's have wireless built in, better screen, 2 card slots (micro SD though), can control power pole through it, faster processer, chirp sonar technology, etc. Definitely worth the extra money.
