Maybe, but I'd be willing to give it a shot.
And Benson is wealthier than Gary Chouest.

When Edison Chouest died in 2008 at the age of 91, he probably left the business to his three sons, Gary, Laney, and Edison Jr. All three boys worked in the business when they were growing up, but Gary was chosen to run the company when Edison stepped down. So Gary probably owns at least a third of Edison Chouest ($1.6 billion), and probably has investments that total several hundred million. He's worth, at a bare minimum, $2 billion. He very well could be worth a lot more - the company is likely worth far more than $5 billion, the CEO probably has a higher share of the company than his other two brothers, and Gary probably has enormous sums of money in investments and capital. To put his wealth into perspective, he's worth anywhere between Mavs owner Mark Cuban ($2 billion) and Blazers owner Paul Allen ($13.5 billion).

You can't possibly say he owns at least 1/3. That's ridiculous and isn't how it works
And next time, link the article you're copying from

No, he is the richest that allows his net worth to be published.

From what I hear Chouest has been losing millions per day with all their boats sitting in the docks.
And yes Chouest still has frick you money but he ain't worth no 2.2 billion.

During the bidding process for the Hornets the potential owners go through a significant vetting process. Their assets are essentially wide open for scrutiny to a select few individuals. Without going into any further details as to what and how I know, I can guarantee that, at the time and according to the NBA, Chouest was worth significantly more than Benson.

Plenty of the boats are stacked up in Fourchon but plenty are also under contract.

The bolded part above kind of proves this 2.2 billion quote to be false.
Looks like no one really knows what he is worth

i grew up playing basketball with Ross, and their adopted son, Clarence... i was around the family quite a bit during tournaments and shite... they are rich as frick, but if i were to guess, i'd put the value of Gary's fortune around 1.5-2 billion... he's close, and like we've said, he's definitely got frick you money, but Benson still has the #1 spot locked up...
