I am heading to toledo bend soon and wanted to get some bass fishing in this weekend in the local area. I was thinking of going to Lake des allemands this weekend... Have there been any reports there recently? Any reason not to go? Or is there any other spots much better within 1hour of new orleans?

2-1/2 hours up I55 to Lake Okhissa outside McComb Miss. You can fish dropshots and crankbaits around deep main lake structure similar to Toledo Bend.

Save the time and fish cataouache or Salvador. Okhissa isn't doing much.

Cataouatche is a crap whole. Unless you go to Gulf Canal area I wouldn't waste my time. Salvador has been OK around the Temple Bay area.
Des Allemands has been on pretty good, but its a real early or real late bite. If you fishing the lake itself, fish the points at the mouth of any canals coming into the lake.
That said, not sure if any of these places will really help for Toledo Bend.

Son and his bud caught 9 nice bass in Temple last Thursday (all 2 lb plus) and around dusk last night he caught a few keepers in a cut off the bayou near his friends camp. They didn't get out there until 7 and stopped on the way to the camp. Not sure if they're fishing today; supposed to be working on the camp.

Club guys caught a limit last sunday there with a 3lb lunker
2nd place fished the gulf canals
Wouldn't hurt to fish the launch canal...there always seems to be a few decent ones in there

We were on the south side of the lake last weekend.. There was a huge algae bloom covering the whole south side.. Water was neon green... Im no expert, but it seems like that would not be good for fishing...?

Yea the lake water is really hot. It turns like that every summer. The fish are near deep water where the big canals empty into the lake. My buddy caught a 6.3lber last week at the end of one, mixed in with knot-heads and a few decent ones.

Thanks for all the replies... with that area seemingly hit or miss, is there any other areas you all would recommend within 1 hour or so of New Orleans? I really am just looking for a good bass spot

Might be a lil more than an hour, but I would hop on Hwy 90 and head towards Morgan City and hit the spillway area. They been smoking over there.

Hey Tigerbait,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have never been out there before, but it looks like an easy drive to the general area. Which launch and lake/area woudl you suggest? I don't need any exact spots but I am not even sure where the spillway is in that area

Thanks LSU_Smash_the_West. What size have the bass been there? Also, any hints to the general area of that huge lake you fish for bass? Only have been on it once for redfishing with a friend
