That seems dumb.

If the kids there until 1130 its considered a full day here, but you cant check the kid out after 230 to avoid congestion in way of school buses.

Technically, for a school day to be counted by the state, the kids have to eat lunch or at least be offered lunch, so I would say that should be the policy. Past lunch time, they are not absent.
FWIW- no student will ever be failed for attendance if their grades are good.

If you are there before 10:30 (halfway through the day) then it counts as a full day

Are those kids in danger of failing due to excessive absences? Aren't they allowed like 12? If the student went to 95% of the classes and were doing well enough to leave for say a family vacation, screw the absent mark. The diploma looks the same.

Here if you them out before 11:30 am, they are considered absent. It's not an absence if they check out afterwards. This is public school in central Alabammer though.

Private school.
I went to less than 120 days my senior year and graduated 4th in my class.

That's most likely an attempt to prevent parents from trying to circumvent the massive daily headache that is picking up your kid from school - targeting parents who'd inconvenience multiple people just so they don't have to be inconvenienced themselves waiting around with the hoi polloi.

My kids' policies are similar to what's been mentioned by others. One thing I like about my kids' schools is that the only thing needed to get an absence excused is a note from a parent saying he/she was sick. Unfortunately, a lot of parents don't realize this fact and some have had to go to court. I think 10 unexcused absences gets a court letter.

Not sure about your school but ours has several "half days" during the year supposedly for teacher training. They claim that by letting the kids out just before lunch, they can still count the day as a school day. Should be the same if a parent checks them out early. Otherwise its bullshite!
