Don't agree with Mainieri's rotation what so ever but I hope the guys strive in their respective roles.

Hasn't Valek been otherwise solid in prior scrimmages with exception to today? Pretty sure he has.

Mainieri said this is "likely Poche's last season at #LSU. He deserves it."

This is such ridiculous reasoning. There's nothing wrong with even a senior being a Saturday night starter.

Yeah, I'm sure Poche is openly weeping at the opportunity to open the season against Cincinnati.

Don't jerk these guys around all year. Give them a role and let them roll.

I like Poche in the Friday role personally, and I like Lange on the mound to win the series or to force the rubber match. I'm not surprised by this move.

Wow, LSU is hurting a lot more than I thought if that's the best guy we can come up with for a Sunday starter.

Spring Stats:
Valek 87mph 4IP 2H 1BB 2K
Valek 87mph 3IP 2H 3K
Valek 87mph 5IP 6H 3ER 2BB 2K (Friday's Line)

Fall Stats:
Valek 1.37 13.1in. 7H 3BB 7K 2ER

Courtesy of Scuba - I'm sure the hate will still poor in from others, but it's not like he hasn't been solid prior to today.

Based on what Valek did in fall and spring scrimmages, along with others' ailments and Valek's starting experience, I have no problem with him starting on Sundays until someone else beats him out of the job. He is not an overpowering pitcher; He just finds ways to get batters out. In today's scrimmage, he twice got K's to get out of jams. The runs scored against him all came in the 5th on Fraley's HR. He then retired the next 3 batters to end the inning.

Its funny to me how many of you think this is the set rotation going forward. This is PM lettjng his veteran starter take the mound on opening night. I cant remember the last time he didnt do that.

Anyone think Lange would have started off differently and be better off now had he been the Friday night guy from day one?

Who knows, baseball has a lot of mental aspects to it.

It definitely looks like it was the right call though given Poche has been more in control. Lange was such a beast though, he didn't have a loss. I am just pleased with Valek, I admit I was a doubter.

This is 100% a hindsight discussion. Lange stayed on Saturdays and they attempted to move him to Fridays twice. Then you had two weeks with double headers exasperating the issue. I just wonder if it would have worked out better with his schedule had he been Friday night all along. There's no way to know. Just thinking about it on my way home and radio talk about him going against the Missourri Ace tomorrow.
