Not surprising to begin the season. I heard PM talk on a radio show not long ago and he hinted at this. Said poche was good enough to beat any Friday. His mode of thinking is win on Friday and pretty much wrap up the series because they will win with Lange pitching vs their 2 on Saturday.
3rd starter also isn't a surprise. He has starting experience and has been looking solid. I don't think he will keep the Sunday position, but PM will let the younger guys work early in the season and see who works themselves into that role.

Even you said you expected Lange/Poche. What makes you think things would change for SEC?

CPM was quoted in The Advocate this morning as saying he wanted to see how effective Valek, the proverbial crafty lefthander whose fastball topped out in the mid 80's was against quality baseball teams' hitters. As in fast ball pitcher fast ball pitcher followed by a slow junk ball pitcher.

It's just for opening night probably. Hence the quote above by PM. I'm pulling Cap's chain because he can be a hot head adolescence at times.
